The vineyard of Château Valcombe covers 36 hectares and is located at the foot of Mont Ventoux. As wine lovers, the family business is fully committed to the restoration and development of the vineyard, to work in the traditional way and to produce wine with respect for the environment. The specificity of our terroir in combination with the special climate in the Ventoux region give our wines character and a balanced taste. The vineyard has been certified organic (ECOCERT) since 2013.

When the Ricome de Surville family bought the Chateau de Valcombe in 1740, it consisted only of bare land and a building used for hunting meetings. Over the years and generations, the estate has grown into a real agricultural and viticultural activity. The chateau itself was completed in 1860. The first major award was given to Valcombe wines at the 1855 World's Fair in Paris. At the end of the Second World War, when the German soldiers left the domain they had occupied for almost three years, Louis de Surville was murdered in Nîmes. Before his death, he bequeathed the estate to his nephew, Charles Ricome, who took over the reins. He will be the first winemaker in the region to plant Syrah vines with a clear vision: to plant quality grape varieties to produce less juice but increase the quality of the wines produced around Nîmes.

A well-known line of Chateau Valcombe is the No Sex for Butterfly series in which the winery uses natural pheromones that ensure that butterflies are not attracted to each other, so that no caterpillars are created. In this way 'sustainable' work can be done without having to spray with chemicals.

No Sex for Butterfly Pinot noir is made from Pinot Noir. The elegance of the Pinot Noir provides a beautiful fruity wine. The wine is pure and clean, completely organic and delicate and elegant. The soil of the vineyard consists of thick layers of pebbles. The vine has to go ten meters deep to find its nourishment. There is an ideal climate. Due to its location, the vineyard optimally benefits from the sun, but also from the daily sea breeze. This ensures that the grapes get the necessary cooling in the summer. Immediately after harvesting, the bunches are destemmed and vinification takes place. The wine is then aged in cuve for 1 year.

In the scent, this No Sex for Butterfly has aromas of intense black and red fruit and a little bit of herbs and flowers. The taste is soft and round, beautiful refined wine with lots of black fruit such as blackberries, currants and cherries.

The construction of Chateau de Valcombe was started around 1830 and was finally finished in 1860. In the second half of the 18th century the first vineyards are laid out. Today, Dominique Rocome takes charge. Various varieties are planted in the vineyard, such as Grenache, Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne, but also Vermentino and Muscat. All plots are contiguous around the Château and extend over 73 hectares. The bottom consists of thick layers of pebbles. The vine has to go ten meters deep to find its nourishment.
