Description
Brane Cantenac's roots can be traced back to the early 18th century. At the time it was owned by the Gorce family and known as Château Gorce (and for a while as Château Gorce Guy). Today the Château consists of 90 hectares of vineyards in the Margaux appellation. The largest vineyard covers 45 hectares and is located next to the Château on the plateau de Brane. The 2nd vineyard (22 hectares) is located further north near Soussans. The other vineyards are located further south near Arsac. The terroir consists mainly of gravel but to a lesser extent also of sand and clay. This Margaux consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Baron de Brane is the second wine from Château Brane Cantenac and this Margaux de Brane is the 3rd wine from Château Brane Cantenac.
Henri Lurton selects the youngest plots of the vineyard for Margaux de Brane. This Baron de Margaux is a silky, fruit-driven wine with impressive roundness and aromas of red fruit, the wine is much more accessible and if the big brother often has to age for years, it is already delicious in its young years. It provides an introduction to the wonders of the Margaux appellation and in particular to Brane's signature style. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 27% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and is one of the best vintages from the estate, but this is widely known about the 2022 vintage. The price quality of this wine is unprecedentedly good.
The climatic conditions were exceptionally favorable for quality in 2022. The winter was mild with little rain. The wine growing season was particularly dry and hot, with lots of summer sun, very little rainfall and several heat waves.
The early start of the harvest is a key feature of the 2022 vintage. However, the harvesting of the grapes, the date of which is determined by their daily tasting as they ripen, took more than a month. The extraction of the small berries was carefully controlled to produce fleshy, dense, extremely long wines with rich, velvety tannins. The terroir of Brane Cantenac ensures that the wines retain their freshness with an excellent balance between alcohol content and pH and the 2022 is one of the estate's best vintages!

Exhibiting aromas of ripe berries, loamy soil and a subtle hint of sweet saddle leather, the 2022 Baron de Brane is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a layered core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, sapid finish.
