Description
The roots of Brane Cantenac can be traced back to the early 18th century. At that time it was owned by the Gorce family and was known as Château Gorce (and for a while as Château Gorce Guy). Henri Lurton has been the director of this Château since 1992, which has been owned by the Lurton family since 1925. The excellent quality of the terroir, which is inextricably linked to the perfectionism of the owner, ensures that this wine is truly insanely beautiful. One of the best brands from the Médoc with a guaranteed fixed value. Today the Château consists of 90 hectares of vineyards in the Margaux appellation. The largest vineyard covers 45 hectares and is located next to the Château on the plateau de Brane. The 2nd vineyard (22 hectares) is located further north near Soussans. The other vineyards are located further south near Arsac. The terroir consists mainly of gravel but to a lesser extent also of sand and clay. This Margaux consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Baron de Brane is the second wine of Château Brane Cantenac.
The 2022 Margaux from Brane Cantenac is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Franc, Carmenère and Petit Verdot and has a stunning elegance and shows subtle notes of tobacco and beautiful red fruit. The wine is refined and medium to full-bodied on the palate with a beautiful concentration of fruit and acidity. The Brane Catenanc is a complex, opulent personality with strikingly beautiful, velvety tannins and a very nice drinking window.

A blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc, Carmenère and Petit Verdot, the 2022 Brane-Cantenac unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, crème de cassis, black truffles, loamy soil, burning embers and violets. Medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with a fleshy core of fruit, terrific concentration and lively acids, it concludes with a long, perfumed finish. This is a terrific 2022 that may rival or even surpass the 2019 if it realizes all its potential in bottle.

A long and very linear red for Margaux with intense freshness and energy. The cabernet sauvignon shows real clarity with blackcurrants and flowers. Crushed stone. Firm and racy with lots of lemon rind and intensity. 74% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 1% cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot and 1% carmenere.

From: You’re Unbelievable: Bordeaux 2022 (May 2023)
The 2022 Brane-Cantenac, as usual, is a wine that you must sit and contemplate before words gush forth. It was picked from 7 September to 10 October (their tiny plot of Carmenère) at 31.5hL/ha and contains 16% vin de presse from the Cabernet Sauvignon. It is well-defined and fresh, a very subtle Margaux, precise with blackberry, wild strawberry, cedar and tobacco scents. As previous vintages have proven, there's a kind of "hidden depth" that will become apparent post-bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very elegant and unashamedly classic in style. This is blessed with haunting poise, composed and detailed on the finish. This Margaux is not a show stopper, which in any case, is not really Henri Lurton/Brane Cantenac’s signature style. Instead, it is a wine that 15 to 20 years down the road, you are going to treasure.

From: 2022 Bordeaux En Primeur: Balance Imbalance (May 2023)
The 2022 Brane-Cantenac is captivating. Aromatic, savory and layered, the 2022 is so alluring from the outset. The natural radiance of the year is very much on display, and yet there is nothing that is overdone about the 2022. Hints of blood orange, spice, rose petal and minerals open over time, offering stunning contrast to the sheer intensity of the fruit shaped by low yields and tiny berries. Brane-Cantenac is, in my view, one of the most under-the-radar wines on the Left Bank. The 2022 is a stunner.
