2022 Bodegas Shaya Blanco BIO
Bodegas Shaya was founded by Juan Gil. The Shaya Verdejo is a white wine from the DO Rueda made from 100% Verdejo from old vines with very minimal yields, planted in the southeastern part of the province of Segovia - in the south of the Rueda appellation. The poor sandy soils force the roots of the old vines to search for water several meters deep. As a result, the minerality is extra thickened. The wine is made by Australian winemaker Belinda Thomson, of the Crawford River winery. The wine is partly raised in stainless steel and partly fermented in oak barrels and remains in contact with the lees for several months before being bottled.
The color is light yellow in the glass with beautiful youthful green reflections. Due to the partial aging in contact with its own lees and with the wood, the wine has a lot of fruit concentration and complexity (which is unusual for a wine in this price range). The wine has beautiful aromas in which nuts, white fruit and exotic fruit such as pineapple and green apples. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and the Shaya offers a fresh, elegant and inviting wine with excellent acidity with clearly defined flavours.
In the wine region of Rueda you will find Bodegas Shaya; they are part of The Juan Gil Family Estates, and are commited to creating wines from 100% Verdejo - a true Golden Inspiration. These Verdejo wines embody a delightful fusion of mineral-rich aromas and a harmonious acidity. Heralding from carefully selected old vines that thrive in the sandy soils.
