Description
EXPECTED DECEMBER 2024
The CARO (Rothschild & Catena) is a collaboration between the families CAtena and ROthschild (Lafite) - the conjugation thus gives the name Caro. In CARO there is a strong Argentinian identity, characterized by the Malbec grape, which obtains further elegance and complexity by blending with Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is produced from the best high-altitude terroirs in the Andes mountains of Mendoza, with the same care as for a Bordeaux Grand Cru.
After the grapes reach the cellar, they are destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks during the alcoholic fermentation period. During this phase, regular pigeages are carried out to gently extract tannins, colour and phenols in the wine. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally in the tanks, after which the wine is transferred to French oak barrels from Tonnellerie des Domaines in Pauillac (80% new oak) for a maturation period of 18 months.
The combination of Malbec (83%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (17%) results in a lush, refined wine with a harmonious balance between the wine's Argentinian identity and its Bordeaux style.

Nestled in the heart of Mendoza, Argentina, Bodegas Caro is a testament to the fusion of two renowned wine dynasties and two noble grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blended together. The Catena family from Argentina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) from France - creating CARO. This partnership dates back to 1999, and blends the knowledge of Old World practices and New World innovation to craft wines with unparalleled character.
The vineyards are located in two of the region's most prestigious sub-regions: Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, both looking out onto the Andes. In Luján de Cuyo, the old vines benefit from the high-altitude (1000 - 1100m), rocky soils, and the large diurnal range. This unique microclimate imparts depth and complexity to the grapes, ideal for creating grape berries with extremely concentrated phenolics. Valle de Uco, offers a distinctly different terroir. Located at higher altitudes (1100 - 1400m), the vineyards experience an even greater diurnal range, which results in a longer growing season. This allows the grapes to retain a vibrant acidity while developing ripe, expressive fruit flavours. Bodegas CARO's commitment to terroir is further evident in their dedication to sustainable farming practices. Setting up sustainable practices now, to ensure the vineyards health for generations to come.
