Description
History of Domaine Alvina Pernot
Alvina Pernot is the granddaughter of renowned Burgundian winemaker Paul Pernot from Puligny-Montrachet. After years of experience within the family business, she founded her own estate in 2018 with her husband Philippe Abadie. Their goal: to produce small-scale wines that express purity, freshness, and terroir. With their vineyards in and around Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, and Saint-Romain, they combine tradition with modern precision. Alvina Pernot's style is known for tension, finesse, and controlled ripeness—wines that prioritize elegance over power.
The Saint-Romain Blanc appellation
Saint-Romain lies west of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, on the border of the Côte de Beaune. Due to its higher elevation and chalky soils, the climate is slightly cooler, resulting in wines with lively acidity and a mineral, almost rock-like freshness. Chardonnay thrives here, producing wines with an elegant profile, floral aromas, and subtle tension. Saint-Romain Blanc from Alvina Pernot is a textbook example of this style: refined, light-footed, and with a chalky precision that beckons you to linger.
The 2022 Alvina Pernot Saint-Romain Blanc
The 2022 vintage was warm and dry in Burgundy, but Alvina Pernot was harvested early to preserve freshness and tension. The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay, sourced from chalky slopes around the village of Saint-Romain. The grapes were hand-picked and gently pressed, after which fermentation took place partly in French oak barrels and partly in amphorae. About a fifth of the oak was new, which provided subtle roundness without compromising the freshness. Production is limited to just a few barriques, making this wine particularly exclusive.
Color, smell and taste
The 2022 Saint-Romain Blanc opens with aromas of lime, green apple, and white flowers, followed by subtle notes of brioche and almond. On the palate, the wine is taut and lively with crisp acidity and a fine, chalky texture. The profile is more mineral than rich, with juicy citrus and peach notes that culminate in a long, dry finish. The whole experience is pure, energetic, and precise – a style that Alvina Pernot has now made her trademark.
Storage potential
The 2022 Alvina Pernot Saint-Romain Blanc is excellent to drink now for its youthful freshness, but will further refine in the coming years. Between 2025 and 2028, the wine will gain complexity, with more depth and creaminess without losing its fresh character.

From: Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)
The 2020 Saint-Romain comprises of just four barrels. This has a refined bouquet with hints of chalk infusing the malic, Granny Smith aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, quite Puligny-like in style with a fine undertow of bitter lemon that enlivens the finish. Fine length. This is worth seeking out.

Wijnhuis
