2022 Susana Balbo Crios Malbec

Susana Balbo is one of Argentina's leading and most innovative winemakers. In 1981, Susana graduated as the first female oenologist in Argentine wine history. She then worked for 25 years for various large wine estates as a winemaker. She is seen as the 'Evita Péron' of Argentine viticulture. Influential, beloved and a bit controversial. Under her motto 'where there is a will, there is a wine' she creates her path to her ultimate dream: her own winery where she can go wild with her ideas about making sublime wines. In 1999 she started her own wine estate Dominio del Plato in the heart of the Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza. The winery is situated breathtakingly against the backdrop of the Andes Mountains. In 2016, the name was changed to Susana Balbo Wines.

The Crios Malbec is a beauty of a wine and a malbec with an almost unbeatable price/quality. The Malbec grapes have matured for 9 months in French oak before being bottled. The Crios Malbec is a sublime wine that swings in the glass. Drifting aromas of cherries, plum and blackcurrants with slightly spicy elements. Full taste, fruitiness dominates, especially plums and blackberries, and light vanilla notes. Elegant and juicy aftertaste. The Crios Malbec was recently featured on the cover of Decanter Magazine as one of the “Top 3 Value Malbecs from Argentina” and has been awarded 91/100 Parker and 92/100 Suckling.
