Susana Balbo is one of Argentina's leading and most innovative winemakers. In 1981, Susana graduated as the first female oenologist in Argentine wine history. She then worked for 25 years for various large wine estates as a winemaker. She is seen as the 'Evita Péron' of Argentine viticulture. Influential, beloved and a little controversial. Under her motto 'where there is a will, there is a wine', she creates her way to her ultimate dream: her own winery where she can go wild with her ideas about making sublime wines. In 1999 she started her own wine estate Dominio del Plato in the heart of the Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza. The winery is breathtakingly set against the backdrop of the Andes Mountains. In 2016 the name was changed to Susana Balbo Wines.

Many of Argentina's top malbec producers strive for as much precision as possible when it comes to bringing out the best of specific sites and terroirs, and some make truly great and unforgettable wines. Susana Balbo is one of them. The Nosotros Single Vineyard Nomade is Susana Balbo's flagship model where each vintage was selected from the best single vineyard of that year, such as Agrelo, Paraje Altamira, Gualtallary or Los Chacayes. What makes Nosotros wines exceptional is not only their unique expression of place and appellation, but also how each of the vintages tells a unique story of unparalleled quality.

The Nosotros of the 2019 vintage from Paraje Altamira shows this in all its aspects. It is a wine with complexity, sophistication and layers of minty mineral blueberries, refined cocoa powder and a delicate balsamic heart to the dark fruit. It is a medium to full-bodied red wine, but juicy, well-rounded and persistent. The aftertaste is unprecedented. Suckling writes of the finish: "........It lasts two minutes and even longer! I tasted it, pressed the chronograph button on my watch and started counting the finish..."

The wine is in the Top 100 Wines of Argentina 2022 | James Suckling the number nr 1: Susana Balbo Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade 2019 - 99/100 Suckling

“It is one of our best harvests over the last 20 years”, said Gustavo Bertagna Susana Balbo's winemaking manager.
The 2019 Nosotros Nómade was fermented in 6,500-litre casks and aged 16 months in French barrels, of which 80 percent were new. It reflects this transition in an eclectic and poised style, showing complexity, refinement and layers with minty, mineral blueberries, refined cocoa powder and a delicate balsamic savoriness to the dark fruit. It's a medium- to full-bodied malbec that is juicy, round, nicely plush and very persistent.

Vineyard for 2019 Susana Balbo Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade

You can say that Susana Balbo Wines has an unusual history. The woman behind this winery actually wanted to study nuclear medicine, but her parents did not allow her to leave Mendoza. Then she surrendered to the family culture: viticulture. She was the first woman in Argentina to become an oenologist and, once a winemaker, the first Argentine woman to be hired for advice by international wineries. In 1999 she started her own winery in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Her son and daughter also work in the family business. Located at the foot of the Andes mountains, the vineyards benefit from the pure meltwater that flows down in spring and summer. When making her wines, Susana combines the knowledge of the terroir with winemaking techniques. The art of blending, she says, is the way of expressing a winemaker's top talent. The play of aromas and flavors from the different terroirs resembles the color palette used by a painter.
