Description
The Prinz Riesling Berg Schlossberg GG 2021 is the absolute top of the top. The Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg is probably one of the most famous places in the Rheingau. The name is derived from the former Ehrenfels Castle, of which only the ruins of Ehrenfels can be seen today. From here the Rhine changes direction again towards the north.
The location is considered the steepest in the Rheingau with a gradient of up to 65% and a south-southwest orientation. Because of this and the reflection of the Rhine, the solar radiation is particularly high. The soil consists of Taunus quartzite and phyllite slate with loess clay and quartzite rubble.
At harvest, the grapes were golden yellow and healthy. After harvest, they were pressed and fermented in half barrels (600-liter wooden barrels). 2021 is widely regarded as a classic cool vintage in Germany, with excellent acidity and a focus on finesse and aging potential.
The Berg Schlossberg GG 2021 is therefore a classic and the most salty and tense Riesling that the estate has to offer. This is fully characterized by the mineral properties of this steep cru which here gives an enormous grip and tension that combines fresh lemon with salty notes and the crystal clear acidity and phenolic grip that the Schlossberg offers. The richness and power are interwoven with purity, finesse and elegance, and the aftertaste reflects the rich extract of the 2021 vintage.

The 2021 Rheingau Riesling trocken Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg VDP. Grosse Lage is a surprising new entry into the range of GGs for Fred Prinz's domaine in Hallgarten. However, this great vineyard matches with the style of this family domaine that is focused on clear, precise fruit, mineral basement and overall elegance and balance. So, the 2021 Berg Schlossberg GG is a classic and the most saline and tensioned Riesling the domaine has to offer. This is entirely characterized by the mineral properties of this steep cru that gives enormous grip and tension here that pairs fresh lemon with saline notes and the crystalline acidity and phenolic grip the Schlossberg provides. The richness and power are intertwined with purity, finesse and elegance, and the aftertaste reflects the rich extract of the 2021 vintage. Far too young to be enjoyed now, this is certainly Prinz's greatest dry Riesling of the vintage. It has the salt and finesse of the Hendelberg but combines these qualities with density, strength and body. A multidimensional, large Rheingauer from a problematic, very rainy year. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork stopper. Tasted in December 2022.

Region : Rheingau
Vintage : 2021
A very elegant and filigree dry riesling with breathtakingly beautiful peach and honeysuckle aromas. The vibrant acidity is married to intense wet-stone minerality and together they drive the very long and racy finish. From a 0.3 hectare parcel in this site, therefore limited production. From organically grown grapes.

Wijnhuis
