Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the river Guadiana and its tributary river Rio dos Patos or the river of the ducks. The trademark is therefore the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for the ripening of the grapes and few vineyards have this luxury and this explains why this winery can make very nice wines because there is never a water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one in the Alentejo that has the influence of the ocean that ensures healthy ripening.
The Herade do Sobroso Sobro Tinto is a blend of Tempranillo (Aragonez), Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Alfrocheiro, so thoroughly Portuguese. The grapes were hand-picked and transported to the winery for fermentation and maceration in stainless steel (temperature controlled) for 21 days. The wine then matured for 12 months in 500 liter oak barrels. It is a very full red wine, intense red in color. In the nose it is a complex wine with aromas of blackcurrant, jam and chocolate. Very nice and long finish. The Sobroso Barrique Select is a wonderful wine especially with spicy dishes such as lamb, pork belly, stews and mature cheeses.
Hubrecht Duijker:
"A beautiful, almost idyllic estate in the southeast (Alentejo) of Portugal, named Herdade de Sobroso. It covers 1600 hectares and you can stay comfortably in both rooms and cottages, while the on-site restaurant prepares dishes based on regional The domain also has 60 hectares of vineyards that have produced a red wine as the Barrique Select 2015. This tastes meaty and spicy, with shades of vanilla, sun-ripened black fruit and a bay leaf. right, because the aging barrels were not 225 liters (classic barrique size) but 500 liters The grapes served were aragonez, trincadeira, alicante bouschet and alfrocheiro, a typical Portuguese mix.
Fact : Aragonez, that's what the Portuguese from the Alentejo province call the national blue grape of Spain, the Tempranillo. Originally a Spanish grape. A reliable grape that ripens early hence the term 'Temprano', which means 'early'.
