Delicious accessible and fresh Chardonnay from Wijnhuis De Wetshof from South Africa. To get a place in Danie de Wet's Sideways series, the Chardonnay must also be a wine that is wonderfully smooth and accessible, with an emphasis on freshness and liveliness. It is harvested from different clones of the estate's ten different Chardonnay clones, with an emphasis on grapes with lots of white fruit and elegance. The calcareous surface provides extra freshness and minerality in the wine. Fermentation and maturation take place in stainless steel and the wine rests for a while on the lie, the dead yeast cells, to give it some extra richness and fat. Delicious, it is smooth and fresh at the same time.

This wine has a wonderful open scent, lots of white fruit, pear and a touch of citrus, exotic and fragrant, in the taste a fresh style Chardonnay light-footed in taste, lime, fresh acidity and liveliness, peach, pear, invigorating. The wine is delicious to enjoy with a hearty fish soup, chicken from the grill, pasta with vongole, veal cutlet. Also fits well with a cozy drink with friends.

The Wetshof Estate in the Robertson Region - 160 km from Cape Town - is South Africa's best known Chardonnay home, and makes a wide range of wine styles from this versatile grape variety. The winery has a balanced portfolio of special and highly distinguished wines from vineyards and cellars where the latest technologies and traditional no-nonsense wine and winemaking techniques go hand in hand.

De Wetshof is located in the Robertson Valley between the Riviersonderend and Langeberg mountains, where the Breede River flows to the southern coast of the Cape. Today, Robertson has developed into one of South Africa's most successful wine regions. The rich loamy soil near the Breede river and the lime deposits on hill and mountain slopes further inland make the region suitable for a high quality and wide variety of grape varieties. Robertson is less than a hundred miles from the ocean. The climate with warm, sunny days and cool nights, is ideal for wine growing.

De Wetshof has a state-of-the-art cellar that is computer-controlled and uses gravity techniques. There is also a spectacular cellar that houses the best oak barrels, where the beautiful wines can mature.
Danie de Wet experiments a lot with new techniques to further improve the quality of the grapes. He is participating in a weather station project and is investigating the water evaporation in the soil of the vineyards and from the vine leaves of the vines. De Wetshof specializes in making Chardonnay. Danie's beautiful creations have inspiring names such as Bon Vallon, Lesca and d'Honneur
