Description
100 percent Nebbiolo is your glass. The highlight of the Montaribaldi winery, which we believe has more to offer than most (much) more expensive Barolos. The Sori is one of the top wines from the Talliano brothers' wine company. Comes from the vineyard "facing south" (=Sori), on the slope near the house. A top plot that produces increasingly better wine. The vineyard is located in the municipality of Barbaresco and is located at an altitude of 270 meters with southern (sori) exposure. This is one of the reasons why this vineyard produces beautifully ripened Nebbiolo grapes. By the way, the land around it all belongs to Gaja. Thanks to the perfect location of the Montaribaldi vineyards and the typical white soil of the Langa hills, the elegant wines produced there have a long life. Montaribaldi is a specialist in terroir wines, so it is not a chemistry factory because good wine comes from a good vineyard and a vintage must reflect the terroir, is Luciano's opinion and we fully support this. This version is a double magnum (jeroboam) of 3 liters which is packaged in a beautiful gift box. Even tastier and an even longer storage potential.
The grapes are stripped of the stems and soaked for 14 days, 4 days at a temperature of 30 to 32°C, 10 days at 27 to 28°C. At the end of the fermentation process, the wine goes into new oak barrels for 2 years. After a light purification, the wine is bottled and remains in the Montaribaldi cellars for another year, before the Sori Barberesco is released onto the market.
The 2020 Sori Barberesco is a very elegant wine and very rich in scent. In the glass the wine has a deep garnet red color with orange reflections. The scent of roses and violets are clearly evident and blend well with the scent of plums, tobacco, cocoa, cloves and black peppers. Powerful, strong tannin, sweet and velvet. Length. It is certainly advisable to give the wine some oxygen in its younger years and to open the wine 2 hours in advance and then you will get a beautiful glass of wine. Balance, length, intensity and concentration of flavors, everything is right about this wine. So enjoy and this Barbaresco DOCG Sorì Montarbaldi is perfect to combine with red and roasted meat and savory aged cheese. Double Magnum version
BAROLO VS BARBERESCO
Piedmont - synonymous with truffles, risotto and, of course, delicious wines! - is considered one of the best wine regions in Italy. The local conditions of terrain, soil and weather create some fantastic wines. As far as red wines are concerned, the Barolos and Barbarescos are world-famous, powerful wines that keep well. Although Barolo and Barbaresco are made from the same grape, Nebbiolo, and produced in adjacent areas less than 10 miles apart, Barbaresco and Barolo wines have a number of distinctive differences.
The Barbaresco area is located south of the Tanaro River and the area, due to its location, has a slightly higher average temperature which allows the Nebbiolo grape to ripen here slightly earlier than in the Barolo area. Young tannins in a young Barbaresco are often not as hard as Barolo and under DOCG rules it is permitted to release Barbaresco for sale a year earlier than Barolo. The most pronounced difference between the two wines is that Barbaresco's tannins tend to soften more quickly, with the wine being more accessible at a younger age than Barolo. The Barbaresco area is smaller than the Barolo area with an annual production of approximately 35% of Barolo production, meaning that Barbaresco is not as widely available on the market.

Wijnhuis
The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines have their origin in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
