2020 Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet Village

The middle part of the Côte de Beaune is famous for its great wines. Puligny-Montrachet, as one of the villages of the Côte des Blancs, is one of these famous appellations. Made famous by the illustrious Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard, Puligny has ancient origins. Puligny could have belonged to a certain Pullius during the Roman Empire. His estate was called « Pulliniacus », from which the name Puligny derives (i.e. the property of Pullius, a fairly common name at the time). The soil is largely limestone. Mixture of ochre-coloured earth and small pebbles.

This is a wine of great finesse, distinctive and elegant. The colour is pure and clear, with light glints of white gold. The aromas evoke trees in bloom and white flesh, such as white peaches. With age, the aromas evolve towards almond and lightly grilled dried fruit. In the mouth there is a sensation of fresh silkiness. Long and persistent in the finish, ending with an exceptional richness of flavours, both floral and fruity.

Grapes harvested by hand in open crates. If necessary, careful sorting is carried out. Slow pressing in a pneumatic press. The juice of the last pressing is separated from the free juice. The juice is transferred to wine barrels after a little settling. The alcoholic fermentation as malolactic and the aging are processed in oak barrels. The share of new barrels is about 20%. The aging lasts between 14 and 16 months.
