The Dumanet wines are the house wines in a number of starred restaurants. As a condition to be allowed to carry these wines, we are not allowed to release the names of these restaurants, but these are sounding names and we can actually quite understand that people like to work with the wines of Dumanet because quality is very good, price very attractive and the style in which the wines are made means that this is highly appreciated by almost everyone.
The vineyards are located in the heart of the well-known AOP of Languedoc: Terrasses du Larzac. But it is not Terrasses du Larzac that is on the bottle, but IGP Saint Guilhem le Désert. This wine is made from 100% syrah and that is not allowed according to the rules of the AOP. Does it affect the quality in any way? Certainly not. The team behind Dumanet wanted to let the syrah of the limestone soils shine solo. After the alcoholic fermentation, the wine remains in contact with wood for a few months to soften the wine and to impart aromas of vanilla and cedar to the wine.
The vineyards are relatively close to the Mediterranean coast. This creates a unique microclimate. Because where it can get quite warm during the day due to the countless hours of sunshine, it can cool down considerably at night. This temperature difference has a very favorable effect on the growth process of the Shiraz grapes.
In the glass, the Dumanet Grande Reserve Shiraz is ruby red. In the nose we smell notes of dark fruit, liquorice, violets, vanilla and pepper. In the mouth this is a warm Syrah, full and soft in taste, ripe tannins.
FACT : The label depicts 2 cycling men, reminiscent of the beautiful bike rides through the vineyards. The winemaker used to cycle through the vineyards with the idea of making a top wine out of this one day, well, he succeeded so many years later.
