Clos Fourtet is located directly opposite the large church of Saint-Emilion. The terroir consists of a clay-loam soil with a lot of limestone. The harvest is manual and, as with all great houses, the first selection already takes place in the vineyard. The 2020 Clos Fourtet is a blend of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged for 14-18 months in 50% new oak barrels, 48% second-year barrels and 2% in amphorae. The wine has a deep garnet purple color and comes out of the glass with ripe, expressive notes of crushed black plums, juicy blackcurrants and black cherry preserves, followed by hints of ground cloves, cinnamon stick, camphorsuckle and cedarwood. The 2020 Clos Fourtet is full-bodied on the palate with fresh, vibrant dark fruits, framed by velvety tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with great length.

Clos Fourtet owes its reputation to the Rulleau and Carles families, lords of Figeac, who acquired these vineyards in the 18th century with a special natural drainage. In 2001, Fourtet came into the possession of the Cuvelier family, who kept Fourtet's status as 1st Grand Cru Classé with great passion and investment. This noble 1st Grand Cru Classé is located right in front of the great church of Saint-Emilion, almost in the historic heart of the ancient town. The cellars of the walled vineyards (the Clos) consist of no less than three floors of corridors carved in the caves. Almost as impressive as the wine.
