Description
Château Siran is the result of a subtle blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, reflecting the identity of its terroir. The relatively high percentage of petit verdot provides a spicy note that enhances the unique character of Sirans wines. Both powerful and subtle, Siran's wines always seek a balance between the softness of the tannins, the intensity of the fruit and a lingering freshness. Siran wines are known for their aging potential, even long aging that will delight the most patient. The 2019 Chateau Siran is a blend of Merlot 47%, Cabernet Sauvignon 45%, 7% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc 1%. In the glass, the wine has a deep garnet-purple color. Another beautiful vintage, the 2020 Siran slides easily from the glass with fragrant notes of violets, blackberry tart, fruit cake, black currant pastilles and dried lavender with hints of kirsch and chocolate mint. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with perfumed layers of black fruits, knitted with a solid base of firm, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness, ending on a lingering mineral note. This is a very impressive achievement for Siran.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Siran features notes of blackcurrant jelly, ripe redcurrants and raspberry leaves, plus suggestions of wild sage, tar and underbrush, with a waft of wild mushrooms. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled and refreshing, delivering approachable, soft tannins and plenty of red berry layers, finishing earthy.

From: Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)
The 2020 Siran is packed with the essence of blackberry jam, mocha, espresso, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and cloves. This dark, sumptuous Margaux is not at all subtle, but it does pack quite the punch. This is an especially opulent style, to be sure.

Although its location, terroir and reputation largely deserved to be included in the 1855 classification, the Toulouse-Lautrec family, owners of Siran, Legitimists and true to their family tradition, were invited to enter into this "Bonapartist classification". are included, rejected. † Once classified as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel next to the castles of Phélan-Ségur, Haut-Marbuzet, Chasse-Spleen, Château Siran now charts its own unique and unique path towards excellence.
The family story began in the mid-18th century, when this complete, harmonious estate, rich in biodiversity, seduced Léo Barbier with undeniable charm. The 17 hectare vineyard, in a single block, in the heart of the largest terroirs of the Médoc. Léo Barbier, a wine merchant from Bordeaux, recognized the qualities of this jewel. After it was acquired on 14 January 1859 from Jeanne-Adèle, Countess of Toulouse-Lautrec, he decided to develop and embellish the property.
His two daughters married the brothers Paul and Alexandre Sollberg in 1866. But the two sons-in-law went bankrupt between 1883-85 and hurriedly left to live in Argentina. In 1885, the family called on a cousin, Fréderic Miailhe, son of Elie Miailhe and Lovely Sollberg, to manage Siran with a Sollberg son-in-law, Marcel Mortier. Fréderic Miailhe, a wine broker, fell in love with Siran and devoted himself to it. So much so that in 1915 he bought back his aunts Sollberg's shares. We are deeply indebted to him, especially for the still delicious 1918 vintage.
Château Siran is located in the village of Labarde in the extreme south of the Margaux appellation. Siran has 25 hectares of vineyard on a large plateau of gravel. The vineyards are planted with cabernet sauvignon (50%), merlot (30%), petit verdot (12%) and cabernet franc (8%).
