Description
La Dame de Montrose, made to the same exacting standards as the Feerste wine, from grapes grown in the same vineyard, is the estate's second label. The smooth and silky Merlot generally predominates in the varietal mix. The very pronounced aromas and flavors of red fruits reflect a different expression of the terroir in a distinctive style. Consistently reliable and maturing faster, the wine was created in 1983 as a tribute to Yvonne Charmolüe, who single-handedly ran Château Montrose from 1944 to 1960. Production varies from year to year, but accounts for an average of 40 to 45% of the total production of the Montrose vineyard. Aged for 12 months in 30% new French oak barrels.
The 2020 La Dame de Montrose is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and 50+% Merlot supplemented with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 2020 offers remarkable liveliness and also a good dose of energy. De La Dame is Chateau Montrose's 2nd wine and it has a perfumed, floral and pure bouquet with black cherries, blueberries and violets. On the palate the wine is well balanced with a more luscious texture compared to its colleague Saint Estèphes thanks to the luscious Merlot that is at the heart of this wine. It has commendable energy and is already very approachable and doesn't need decades in the cellar to get ready to drink.
GOOD FACT: It 's worth mentioning that we buy the (Bordeaux) wines directly and never buy them through the intermediary because we don't know all the journeys the wine has made and how it has been treated. The wines come from the cellars of the Chateau directly into our conditioned Warehouse in Dordrecht where all our wines are stored. If you come to pick up the wine, you will also receive a nice discount.

From: Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)
The 2020 La Dame de Montrose is fabulous. Rich, dense and expansive, the 2020 offers notable vibrancy and a good bit of energy too. Bright acids cut through a core of red/purplish fruit in what is an intense, wonderfully saline Dame. The 2020 finishes with remarkable elegance and sophistication.

Château Montrose is one of the most prestigious Médoc chateaus. Especially since the wealthy brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues bought the chateau in 2006 and started a rigorous 'makeover'. They tackled absolutely everything from vineyard to cellar. The team is also being strengthened, including with Hervé Berland, who says goodbye to his position as director at Château Mouton-Rothschild to lead this ambitious project. Quality has skyrocketed ever since and the last few vintages Château Montrose has consistently been among the very best wines in Bordeaux; a great achievement! Part of the major quality improvement is a 'parcelic' approach, in which the vineyard is divided into small pieces, each of which is assessed, vinified and raised separately. The selection options have increased enormously as a result. Such that, in addition to a first and second wine, a third wine has also seen the light.
Chateau Montrose makes powerful wines that have a long life ahead of them. Although very tannic, the elegance and especially intensity is memorable. This one of the very best St. Estèphe wines has the 2nd Grand Cru Class status but could easily compete in the highest 1st Cru class. Since the 1989 harvest, followed by a 100-point score by Robert Parker in 1990, Montrose has earned a worldwide reputation and ranks among the greatest Bordeaux.
