Description
La Fleur de Boüard is located in Lalande-de-Pomerol, a lesser-known but increasingly prestigious wine region in the Bordeaux region, known for producing excellent Merlot-based wines. The winery was founded in 1998 by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, a co-owner of the famous Château Angélus in Saint-Émilion. His expertise and experience have contributed to the high quality of La Fleur de Boüard's wines. La Fleur de Boüard's vineyards cover approximately 25 hectares and are located on sandy and clayey soils, ideal for growing Merlot, the dominant grape variety in this region. La Fleur de Boüard's wines are made mainly from Merlot, supplemented with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. La Fleur de Boüard is known for its modern winemaking methods that combine traditional techniques with innovative technologies. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure the best quality. The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and then matured for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, a significant proportion of which are new. This gives the wine complexity and depth. Deep purple-black in colour, La Fleur de Boüard Le Plus requires some swirling and patience to release the enticing aromas of forest floor, dried lavender and iron ore, above a core of cherry liqueur, black raspberry and plum compote. The medium to full-bodied palate sparkles with vibrant, fragrant black fruit, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and an energetic backbone, with a playful, lively finish.

The 2020 Le Plus has a deep purple-black color, needing a little swirling and coaxing to unlock beguiling notes of forest floor, dried lavender and iron ore over a core of kirsch, black raspberries and plum preserves. The medium to full-bodied palate shimmers with lively, perfumed black fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and a racy backbone, finishing with a skip in its step.

Lots of blackberry and black-olive character with tar and asphalt. It’s full and layered with focused tannins and a long, spicy finish.

The 2020 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is one of the best editions of this cuvée I have tasted. I am not sure about the extended élevage in barrel, but there is no denying the beauty and purity of the fruit. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, spice and chocolate build effortlessly in the glass. The 2020 is hugely promising.

Château La Fleur de Boüard is an estate nestled in the heart of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, close to the emblematic Château Pétrus. The estate offers an immersive experience to share the spirit of the place and bring out the winemaker’s soul.
Close to the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers, the fertile soils of Château La Fleur de Boüard benefit from a sunny, warm and humid climate, ideal for growing vines. This mild climate favors early flowering. This is why the name “La Fleur” is so frequently used in the appellation.
