Description
The Gravières belongs to the area immediately next to Chassagne and is located from south to southeast with an altitude of 230 to 260 meters. The word Gravières in French refers to "Gravel" that we can find on all plots, from the top part of the hill down. The top layer of the soil is dominated by clay, while deeper digging results in a more sandy structure. Gravières is perhaps the most prestigious plot in Santenay.
The Château de la Crée Santenay Premier Cru 'Gravières' Blanc has a beautiful mineral nose with pebble/stone, apple and citrus in the nose. Medium to full bodied in the mouth with a creamy texture and a spicy, mineral aftertaste and like all wines from Château de la Crée, the wine is perfectly balanced and very elegant and are wines that become very beautiful with some aging. This is a nice accompaniment to delicate fish (fried or, better yet, steamed), poached eggs and grilled or marinated vegetables, soft cheeses such as Camembert.

ABOUT SANTENAY
Santenay is located exactly south of Chassagne Montrachet and is the southernmost village of Burgundy's famous "Cote D'or" ("Gold Coast") region. The etymology of Santenay is most likely connected to the word "Sanctus", which refers to a sacred place before the Christian era. The appellation, with a total of 140 hectares of planted vines, consists of three areas, one next to Chassagne, one around the village and one just south of the village. It is mainly a Pinot Noir appellation nowadays, but the Chardonnay reveals high potential there.

The venerable Château de la Crée estate in Santenay, Burgundy, dates back to the 15th century, when it was owned by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of Philip the Good and founder of the Hospices de Beaune. Today, the Château's vineyards include seven rare Premier Cru blocks located entirely along the famous Côte d'Or escarpment, home to some of the world's most legendary Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The venerable Château de la Crée estate in Santenay, Burgundy, dates back to the 15th century, when it belonged to Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to Philip the Good and founder of the Hospices de Beaune. Today, the Château's vineyards encompass seven rare Premier Cru blocks located entirely along the famous Côte d'Or escarpment, home to some of the world's most legendary Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The Château de la Crée estate consists of 25 hectares of prime vineyard blocks in Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and Maranges and all plantations are located on Premier Cru sites. Biodynamic farming practices are employed in all vineyards to encourage optimal terroir expression and ensure soil and plant health.
Ken and Grace Evenstad, founders and owners of Domaine Serene Winery, came full circle in their passion for great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay when they bought the respected Burgundian wine estate Château de la Crée in April 2015.

The Château de la Crée team strives to continuously combine innovative winemaking techniques to highlight the best qualities of the legendary terroir found only in Burgundy. While great wines start with great vineyards, no detail is left unexplored during the winemaking process.
