Baglio del Cristo is now seen as one of the best wineries in Sicily, where Sicily is currently seen as a strongly emerging Italian wine region. In 2000, the Bonetta brothers started the first plantings of grape vines in Agrigento. The family wanted to make their dream come true, making wines of the highest quality. This was quite successful, the wines were launched on the market in 2009 and immediately won prizes.
The LAUDÀRI is a 100% Chardonnay from Sicilia Denominazione di Origine Controllata. Laudri roughly translates as Song of Praise and he can receive this praise because it is the first Sicilian chardonnay. In the glass, this beautiful chardonnay has a bright straw yellow color with light tones and clear notes of the famous limestone soils of Baglio del Cristo di Campobello. The grapes are normally harvested manually at the end of August from a vineyard located on a hilly terrain, with predominantly calcareous soil. The vineyard is located in Campobello di Licata at an altitude between 230 and 260 meters above sea level and 7,500 meters from the coast. The vineyard therefore has a unique microclimate where the day / night temperature fluctuation is up to 20 degrees due to sea breeze. Minimal intervention is also required because the sea breeze keeps the vineyard healthy (lice, fungi).
The chardonnay grapes are harvested by hand in small crates. After destemming and crushing, the temperature of the must is reduced to 8-10oC for maceration. this ensures a better and quiet extraction of all aromas. A light pressing follows, after which the free-run wine is separated and decanted through the process of natural sedimentation at low temperature. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel, after which it is allowed to mature on its lees (sur lie) for 3-4 months in oak barrels with weekly bâtonnage and then the wine is bottle-aged for another 8 - 12 months before the wine becomes available. Only a maximum of a few thousand bottles of this Laudari are made each year. This great Sicilian chardonnay is fragrant, with aromas of citrus fruits and flowers and hints of butter, mango and yellow plum on a vanilla-tinged base. Soft and full, clearly defined by freshness and elegant flavors, in perfect harmony and with a long-lasting aftertaste. This wine can be kept for at least around 5 years.
