Lapostolle the iconic winery makes all its wines based on a French style. On their back label they also state: "...Lapostolle Wines are French in essence..." (NB: you can also read this as we take 360-degree photos of all the bottles which you can zoom in if you like).

The Marnier-Lapostolle family, founder and owner of the world-renowned liqueur, Grand Marnier, has also been making beautiful wines for generations. The icon wine is Clos Apalta, perhaps the best wine in South America

The 'French' Chileans of Lapostolle also make a beautiful and unique Chardonnay in Casablanca, the cooler area of the arts. They also use a Semillon in this wine and this combination creates a French-like chardonnay. The hand-picked grapes are delivered cooled, sorted using 'vistalys' technique and pressed directly. No malolactic fermentation to keep the wine fresh and the aging takes place at 100% in a stainless steel tank. The wines are produced according to bio-dynamic methods and have been made certified Carbon-neutral (Co2-neutral).

In the glass, the Grand Selection Chardonnay has a clear light yellow color. In the attractive nose expressive aromas of tropical fruits, such as pineapple and papaya, in addition to sweet floral notes. From the beginning to the end you can taste the beautiful acidity, elegance, round structure and concentration. Long harmonious finish. Due to the cool climate there is an excellent balance between the fruit and the acids, which makes this chardonnay very pleasant.

Vineyard for 2019 Lapostolle Grand Selection Chardonnay

Lapostolle was founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and husband Cyril de Bournet after their discovery of a unique Clos in the Apalta Valley with 100 year old pre-phylloxera vines. They soon realized the potential for producing world-class wines. The Marnier-Lapostolle family has been known for its fine wines and liqueurs (Grand Marnier) since the beginning of the 19th century. In establishing her family's legacy in the New World, Alexandra brought generations of French winemaking tradition and expertise to the rugged landscapes of the Colchagua Valley.

Today, Charles de Bournet, the seventh generation, leads the winery in its latest chapter of innovation, punctuated by the official recognition of the Apalta DO in 2018. Together with Andrea León, technical director and winemaker, they continue to make wines that live up to the credo of the winery honor : French in essence, Chilean by birth.

The Lapostolle winery is located in Cunaco, Santa Cruz in the Colchagua Valley, but the heart of Lapostolle is just 7 km away in El Condor de Apalta, site of the famous Clos. Here, in a horseshoe-shaped valley with decomposing granite slopes, formed by the Coastal Cordillera, the old blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere were planted between 1910-1945. The vineyard's south-facing position protects the vines from the intense midday sun, allowing longer maturation and producing wines with elegance, balance, concentration and excellent natural acidity.

Today the vineyards cover 188 hectares planted in Cabernet, Carmenere, Merlot and Petit Verdot, along with Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault between the two Apalta vineyards. At Lapostolle, the goal is as simple as it is ambitious: to create world-class wines using the French viticultural philosophy and Chile's exquisite terroirs. The founders chose Apalta in the Colchagua Valley because the weather and geographical conditions are perfect for producing high quality red wines. Today, the winery is in transition from a biodynamic regime to a more comprehensive sustainability protocol defined under Wine of Chile's certification standards, expected to be completed by 2022.
