Description
The 2 new white wines from Emilio Moro are El Zarzal and La Revelia and saw the light of day in the 2016 vintage. Both are based on the noble grape Godello and the vineyards are in the Bierzo. They have been working on these new (white) wines for more than 10 years to produce beautiful wines that fit a high-end wine company such as Emilio Moro. Many large Ribera del Duero wineries now also have a Bierzo vineyard so that they can also make beautiful white wines.
The La Revelia is also a 100% Godello from a high vineyard in the Bierzo. The La Revelia is fermented at a controlled temperature in 500 liter French oak barrels, followed by maturation sur lie in the same French oak barrels for 8 months. The wine is light gold in color and has a very intense aroma with the typical nuances of Godello, such as fresh stone fruit and subtle citrus and herbaceous notes. As soon as it develops in the glass, we can appreciate the great aromatic potential of this wine. The fruity profile gains complexity, with aromas of dried flowers and very light toasted notes of oak mingling throughout. On the palate, Revelia is long, broad and well structured, with balanced acidity. This is a wine for people who are (often rightly) tired of chardonnay. This is a complex wine that has an excellent P/Q for the money and can compete with much more expensive Chardonnays.

Their top Godello from Bierzo, the 2018 La Revelía is a serious white fermented and aged in 500-liter French oak barrels. It's creamy and spicy, the oak adding layers of complexity, with yellow fruit and toast aromas and a round palate, textured and with structure and a faint bitterness in the finish. This should mature nicely in bottle. 47,000 bottles were filled in December 2019.

A broad and textured godello with a spicy and mineral note to the green and white fruit on the nose. A hint of marzipan. Phenolic, medium- to full-bodied, with plenty of ripe melon and creamed nectarines on the palate.

Round and creamy, this light- to medium-bodied white shows a kiss of oak spices and lime blossoms accenting flavors of glazed apple and pear, hazelnut and pastry cream. The family business Emilio Moro has been located in Pesquera del Duero since 1892. This bodega boasts a three-generation tradition and includes vineyards over 90 years old. Due to their long history, they have been able to expand their vineyards very specifically with mostly Tinto Fino. The Finca Resalso and Crianza excel in purity, elegance and complexity. The top cuvées are of rare class; the very old vines of these two 'Pagos' give an extremely low yield resulting in very complex wines with a great depth and temperament.
In 1987 Emilio Moro first launched his own wines under his own label. With about 200 hectares of vineyards and a total annual production of 1.5 million bottles, it is a modern and large company. Thanks to its high quality standards and innovative management, it is also one of the leading wine companies. This applies not only in Spain but money worldwide and this is also confirmed that it has been nominated by Wine Enthusiast as Best Winery of the World. Emilio Moro's focus on Research, Development and Innovation is impressive and the enormous focus on quality is certainly an important factor in the high quality of all wines, but let's not forget that the old Emilio Moro vineyards are located in the most beautiful part of the Ribera del Duero with a completely unique and extremely suitable terroir located at a great height. In 2017, Wine Spectator placed the Emilio Moro in 59th place in the Prestigious Top 100 of the world's best wines.
In 2008, Emilio Moro died at the age of 75. In the same year, the Emilio Moro foundation was established, which is committed to providing poor regions of the world with clean drinking water and improving living conditions. Javier & José Moro are now in charge.
The emilio moro portfolio consists of 5 red wines, all of which are made from the regional variant of the Tempranillo (tinto fino). The special thing is that a very old pure clone is used. The vineyards range from 30-90 years old, but even the younger vineyards are from the lots of this unique clone. Emilio moro does not use the terms Crianza or Reserva and the name of the wine stands for the character of the wine.
