Didier Dagueneau is a world-renowned French winemaker who left his mark on the Pouilly-Fumé. He passed away in 2008, but his son Benjamin, who had been in the company with his father for years, took over the company with the same passion and talent. Every wine lover knows the beautiful Pouilly-Fumé's of Domaine Dagueneau. They are among the best and most sought after Sauvignon Blanc wines and are on the menu of every serious star restaurant. The rolls royce under the Pouilly Fumé. We can only get a few bottles of this. This is for the simple reason that only a very limited number of bottles are produced and then distributed among all top wine merchants all over the world. The Silex is the most special version.
The Silex is only produced from plots high on the slopes of Saint Andelain and only from vineyards that contain large amounts of silex (clay/slate). The vines here range from 20-50 years and are pruned to extremely lower yields than in the other vineyards. The wine is aged in oak barrels (450/600 litres) and of course in the famous Dagueneau own barrels which have a cigar shape. The Silex is the absolute premier Grand Cru among the Pouilly Fumé
A wonderfully intense bouquet of flowers and resinous herbs rises from the glass of Dagueneau Fume de Pouilly Silex anticipating the bittersweet presence of Mediterranean herbs and white flowers with citrus notes. This all ends with an impressive finale. This exceptional pouilly fumé naturally has the unique minerality that makes the wine of Dagueneau so unique and sought after. The Silex is perhaps the most special and sought after Pouilly Fumé. It is advisable to put this wine aside for a while and to uncork the bottle from 2022/2023 at the earliest (or try a sip with the Coravin and then put it down again). The Silex is extremely scarce and it can be enjoyed even more if you manage to let it rest for some time and then it will be enjoyed optimally.
Domaine Didier Dagueneau is located in Saint-Andelain which falls under the Pouilly-Fumé (dry white wine type with AOC classification). The area is characterized by the mainly flint clay soil, partly responsible for the characteristic taste of the wines from this area.
Since the death of the eponymous owner Didier Dagueneau in 2008, the winery has been run by Benjamin Dagueneau. His father Didier was known in the wine world for his great wines. His son Benjamin is at least as talented and continues to work passionately in the way his father did. Of course you can taste that in the fantastic wines that this winery produces. The real wine lovers certainly know the beautiful Pouilly-Fumés of Domaine Dagueneau. They are among the most sought after and the best Sauvignon Blanc wines and are on the menu of renowned restaurants.
