The beautiful vineyards of Weingut Bründlmayer lie on the steep slopes of a hill not far from the Danube in the Kamptal wine district. The forests in the north protect the grapes from the cold northwest wind. Summers can be hot, but in the evenings the water of the Danube cools the vineyards. Eight hundred years ago, Cistercians monks founded all these vineyards on the Danube hill where Bründlmayer picks his grapes to this day. Bründlmayer winery is one of the top 10 white wine in Austria. Only organic fertilizers are used and no poison or fertilizer is used.

The Terrassen Gruner Veltliner comes from various terrace vineyards around Langenlois in the Kamptal. The higher vineyards have mainly stony soils, and produce fruity, finesse-rich wines with a lot of terroir and lager potential. The lower vineyards have a top layer of loess, yielding riper and more powerful wines that are accessible at a younger age. Together, this produces a beautiful harmony of ripeness, freshness, finesse and strength.

The Terrassen is made of 100% Grüner Veltliner. In the nose we smell blossom, juicy apple, some lime and lemon, apricot but also mineral elements due to the beautiful calcareous terroir. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied with an elegant dry taste, somewhat fleshy and nice juicy with fresh acidity. The wine has a beautiful and long aftertaste that belongs to a good Gruner Veltliner with the typical spiciness of the grape. The wine is a textbook example of the harmoniously juicy Grüner Veltliners from the Kamptal.

Weingut Bründlmayer in the Kamptal

The beautiful vineyards of Weingut Bründlmayer are located on the steep slopes of a hill not far from the Danube in the Kamptal wine district. The forests in the north protect the grapes from the cold northwest wind. Summers can be hot, but in the evening the water of the Danube cools the vineyards. Eight hundred years ago, Cistercian monks founded all these vineyards on the hill on the Danube where Bründlmayer still picks his grapes today. Bründlmayer winery is one of the top 10 white wine producers in Austria. The winery is a family business and measures approximately 75 Hectares. Willi Bründlmayer took over the winery from his parents in 1980. From them he inherited the love and respect for nature. He attaches great importance to the natural balance in his vineyards. It does not use chemical agents such as herbicides and the vineyards are fertilized exclusively with organic agents (such as compost from plant waste). The terroir plays an important role in his wines. The vineyards are located in and around the village of Langenlois in the Kamptal wine-growing region (approx. 70 km west of Vienna). They are mainly located on terraces and sloping slopes on the banks of the Kamp river, near the mouth of the Danube. They are protected from the cold northwest wind, and catch the warmth of the sun on the stone bottom during the day, to cool off again at night by the fresh forest air. The soil consists mainly of scant primary rock, sometimes with a top layer of loess.

Harvest & working method

All grapes are hand-picked from mid-September to sometimes in November in small 10 kg boxes. The wines are fermented cool (not cold!). The very modern cellar of Willi Bründlmayer offers all possibilities for "modern winemaking", but he does not pursue "high-tech" wines. After the fermentation in steel, the wines mature in large wooden barrels of Austrian (Manhartsberger) oak or acacia. Some wines (such as the chardonnay) also age in small 300L barrels.
The main white grape varieties of Weingut Bründlmayer are Grüner Veltliner (33%), Riesling (25%), Chardonnay (6%) and Grauer Burgunder (= Pinot gris, 5%). Furthermore, beautiful red wines are made from Pinot Noir, Zweigelt and St. Laurent, among others, and he makes a masterly vintage (Bründlmayer Brut).
