The 2020 Bouchard Père & Fils captivating Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 floats from the glass with aromas of ripe pear and citrus fruit mixed with honeycomb, white flowers, fresh bread and baking spices. Full, spacious and multi-dimensional, it is richly layered, with a textural start that flows into a roomy, meaty mid-palate and a long, salty finish. The grapes for this Montrachet Grandcru come from an organically grown postage stamp vineyard of 0.89 Ha.

Technical director Frédéric Weber and his team have realized another beautiful vintage chez Bouchard Père & Fils, starting with harvesting on August 19 with manual selection to remove the dried out berries. The vineyards thrived despite a significant shortage of water, testifying to a viticulture that ranks among the best of the great houses of Burgundy. They are going through a transition to organic/biodynamic with numerous progressive innovations that will undoubtedly find imitators in the short term with other major players. In any case, the resulting wines turned out beautifully, with alcohol percentages close to 13% to 13.5% and lower pHs than in 2019. Bouchard's white wines are bottled under DIAM closures.

Vineyard for 2020 Bouchard Père & Fils Montrachet Grand Cru

Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy, continuing the tradition for nearly 3 centuries and 9 generations. In 1775, Joseph Bouchard acquired his first vineyards in Volnay in the famous climate of "Les Caillerets" and began developing the family's vineyards. During the French Revolution, properties belonging to the clergy and nobility were confiscated and put up for sale. Joseph's son, Antoine Philibert Joseph Bouchard, took the opportunity to expand the family's vineyards in Beaune, including the famous "Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus". This desire to build an exceptional estate in the Côte d'Or persisted for generations and acquisitions in the best villages were added throughout the 19th century and again in the early 20th century.

In 1820, Bernard Bouchard bought the Château de Beaune, a former royal fortress built in the 15th century by King Louis XI. Four of the fort's five original towers, as well as parts of the ramparts, still stand and have been listed as Historic Monuments since 1937. The cellars run deep underground and provide ideal natural storage conditions for the fine wines of Bouchard Père & Fils. Up to a depth of 10 meters, the wines develop and ripen undisturbed. There is a unique collection of more than 2,000 bottles from the 19th century. An invaluable historical heritage whose icon is the oldest wine – a Meursault Charmes 1846 that still retains its brilliance.

By acquiring different terroirs with great care and patience, Bouchard Père & Fils has built up a huge domain in Côte-d'Or over time. Today, the estate has 130 hectares of vines, of which 12 are Grand Cru and 74 are Premier Cru. Bouchard Père & Fils is an example of unique Burgundian heritage, offering great diversity and a series of prestigious appellations: Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l'Enfant Jésus, Bonnes-Mares, Meursault Perrières... names that resonate with the history, inspiring respect and encouraging the pursuit of excellence, with 4 monopolies and exclusivities among them.

Since 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils has been constantly striving to express the specific character of the Burgundy terroirs. With experience, the company has modernized but remains true to tradition, always respecting the beauty and timelessness of its environment. The purity of expression of the terroirs, hard work, meticulous attention to detail, creativity"¦. these are all part of the company's family values. Combining tradition and innovation, Bouchard Père & Fils works hard to make the distinctive of each successive vineyard and vintage, and strives to turn its wines into exquisite works of art, each with its own personality and charm.Around the world, the wines are served to mark important events, to awaken the senses and to inspire culinary creations, to delight lovers of fine wine.
