Description
The Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin was harvested in early October. This wonderfully fresh and pure chateanuaf du pape shows liquorice , violets , flowers and black fruit. This is a medium to full-bodied wine which is beautifully balanced with a lively atmosphere in the mouth and a lot of depth and complexity . The Cuvee Chaupin from Domaine de la Janasse is made from 100 % Grenache , which comes from very old vines and sandy soils. If you can, give it a few years and enjoy it for at least 10-15 years . The 2017 has been awarded 95 Parker points and is extremely rare, especially since Domaine de la Janasse makes absolute top wines across the board, there is an absolute run on these wines.
Domaine de la Janasse dates back to 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 ha of vineyard. The total surface area now consists of 55 ha and is currently run by son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. The vineyards are located on a difficult subsoil of gravel, sand and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 80 years old. The yield is usually less than 30 hl/ha due to strict pruning and a rigorous vendange verte.
Janasse's big breakthrough came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 Parker points!! Year after year, all their wines score excellent. The quality of this domaine is so great that even their "regular" Cotes-du-Rhone has a high reputation worldwide! This is really a TOP domaine!

Professional Reviews
Parker
As usual, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin displays more red fruit than the main bottling, being 100% Grenache from sandier soils. Raspberries and cherries appear on the nose alongside subtle hints of garrigue. The full-bodied palate is almost airy in feel, supported by a latticework of silky tannins and bright acids, while simultaneously adding bass notes of dark chocolate and licorice that linger on the finish. It's an impressive effort.
Although the expensive and rare Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is almost always near the top of its class, smart shoppers have been on the lookout for this producer's Côtes du Rhône offerings for years. Even the Merlot-based IGP is worth a try.

This bursts forth with delicious crushed plum, cherry puree and raspberry coulis notes that stretch out slowly through the lengthy, anise- and black tea–infused finish. Not shy with its fruit, but this has more than enough energy and detail for balance. Best from 2021 through 2038.

Domaine de la Janasse dates from 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 ha of vineyard. The total area now exists of 55 ha and is currently run by son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. He is a very successful winemaker! Christophe cultivates more than 15 hectares of vineyards in total. The variety of different grapes is very large, including Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne, Carignan, Bourboulenc, Counoise. All wines are made classically and excel through the combination of power and finesse. The vineyards are located on a difficult surface of pebble, sand and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 90 years old. The yield is usually less than 30 hl / ha due to strict pruning and a rigorous vendange verte. Christophe also works almost exclusively organically. Janasse's big break came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 points Parker !! All their wines score excellent year after year. The quality of this domain is so great that even their "ordinary" Côtes-du-Rhône "is already highly regarded worldwide!
