Description

The 2018 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 40.8% Merlot, 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.6% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet purple in color, the wine emerges from the glass with bold notes of blackcurrants, stewed black plums and blackberries, with suggestions of chocolate mint, pencil lead and cloves, plus a hint of scorched earth. The medium to full palate is packed with juicy black fruits, beautifully balanced by a wonderful freshness and ripe, rounded tannins, with a long and spicy aftertaste.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is the second wine from Château La Mission Haut-Brion, a renowned winery in Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux. Here are some key aspects of this winery:

History and Location

  • History : Château La Mission Haut-Brion has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. The winery has built an excellent reputation for producing high-quality wines and is often considered one of the best wineries in the Pessac-Léognan region.
  • Location : Located in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, south of Bordeaux, the vineyards benefit from a unique terroir ideal for viticulture. The vineyards of La Mission Haut-Brion are located next to those of Château Haut-Brion, which contributes to the exceptional quality of the wines.

Vineyard and Terroir

  • Vineyard : The vineyards of Château La Mission Haut-Brion cover approximately 25 hectares and are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
  • Terroir : The soils consist mainly of deep gravel layers with clay and sand, which ensures excellent drainage and ideal growing conditions for the grapes. The microclimate in this region contributes to the ripening and concentration of the grapes.

Wine production

  • Vinification : La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is made with the same care and attention as the first wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks.
  • Ageing : The wine matures in French oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 18 months. This contributes to the complexity and structure of the wine.
