Description
The La Chapelle de La Mission - 2nd vin du Château la Mission-Haut-Brion is, as the name suggests, the second wine of this famous house from Pessac Léognan. The La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion 2022 is composed of 55.9% Merlot, 35.4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Cabernet Franc,
The colour of this wine is a strong, dark purple. The first nose has intensity, but after swirling it reveals notes of delicate woody ripe fruit. A beautiful balance. In the mouth the first taste is fresh, broad and flavoursome. The wine has a relatively long finish and offers a sensational pleasure for a second wine. A truly beautiful Chapelle.

A blend of 55.9% Merlot, 35.4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion offers aromas of dark berries, licorice, graphite, bell pepper and pencil shavings. It’s medium to full-bodied, fleshy and nicely balanced with a tense, fresh and penetrating finish.

From: 2022 Bordeaux En Primeur: Balance Imbalance (May 2023)
The 2022 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut Brion is a powerful, dense wine, almost shockingly so. Gravel, spice, leather, menthol and dried flowers give the 2022 tons of aromatic presence to play off a core of dark, red-toned fruit. I don’t recall tasting a Chapelle with this much tannin in recent times, going back to the 2010. Readers will find a wine that delivers immense pleasure, though and tons of character.
- By Antonio Galloni on April 2023
My tasting with Jean-Philippe Delmas was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Bordeaux for this report. The 2022 reds at Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion are rich, heady wines. Yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare at Haut-Brion and just 28 at La Mission Haut-Brion, the lowest at La Mission since 1991. I found all four reds compelling. The whites, from the earliest harvest since 2003, are also terrific, even if they don't quite reach the level of the reds.
