Winery Château La Conseillante

Château La Conseillante is one of Pomerol's most iconic estates, situated on the border with Saint-Émilion. Founded in the 18th century, the château is known for its elegant, velvety style in which Merlot plays the leading role. Under the leadership of Technical Director Marielle Cazaux, the focus in recent years has shifted even more strongly towards precision, terroir expression, and refinement. Region and terroir

The vineyards of La Conseillante are situated on an exceptional combination of deep clay and gravelly soils. This location ensures power and concentration, but also freshness and tension. The warm and dry growing season of 2022 yielded perfectly ripe grapes with impressive aromatic intensity and structure.

Vineyards and grape varieties

The 2022 consists of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. Merlot gives the wine its velvety texture and lush fruit expression, while Cabernet Franc provides aromatic lift, floral notes, and additional structure. The harvest took place from early to late September, at full ripeness.

Harvest, vinification and aging

After careful selection, the wine was aged in 70% new oak, 27% once-used barriques, and 3% amphora. This combination imparts depth and complexity, while the purity of the fruit is fully preserved. The aging supports the texture without disrupting the balance.

Color, smell and taste

Deep ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose, an intense and refined expression of mulberry, black raspberry, and plum, complemented by violets, mint, liquorice, and subtle notes of truffle and spices.

On the palate, full and silky with a creamy, almost enveloping texture. The fruit is ripe and layered, supported by extremely fine, perfectly integrated tannins that provide length and structure. The balance between richness and precision is impressive, with a long, refined, and mineral finish.

Drinking window and development

With 100 points from The Wine Advocate, this wine belongs to the absolute top of the vintage. James Suckling (98-99 points) and Antonio Galloni (98 points) also emphasize the exceptional quality and refinement. Although the wine is already enchanting in the glass, it will continue to deepen and develop over the coming decades.
