Description
About Château Latour
A few years ago, Château Latour from Pauillac left the Bordeaux trading system of offering it to the market immediately after the harvest. They now release a vintage from their cellars every year that they believe is perfect to enjoy now and for years to come. This classically balanced, youthfully structured young wine appears to have a wonderful longevity.
Located in the heart of the Médoc wine region about 50 km northwest of Bordeaux, Château Latour is where the legend of the Bordeaux vineyards began. The Château's main terroir, l'Enclos, overlooks the Gironde Estuary which has created geological complexity over the centuries and guarantees a mild climate every day. Since 1993, under the leadership of the Pinault family, the estate's owners, significant changes have been implemented with the aim of continuing Château Latour's commitment to excellence in the wines produced.
Harvest of the 2017 Château Latour Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac
Blend: 92.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.8% Merlot, 0.1% Petit Verdot
After a cold and dry winter, mild weather in March led to normal bud break, on March 29 for Merlot and April 3 for Cabernet Sauvignon. In April, significant differences in day and night temperatures were noticeable, which together with the lack of precipitation promoted an even and regular development of the vines. However, two nights of spring frost on April 27 and 28 affected 2.6 hectares of Château Latour, mainly on plots outside the Enclos used for the Pauillac de Latour. May rainfall was concentrated over just 9 days and this, together with the early summer heat, led to early flowering that occurred quickly and evenly in sunny conditions. The first three weeks of June were dry. The dry and moderately hot summer of 2017 with cool early mornings allowed the grapes to ripen evenly. Rainfall in the first two weeks of September significantly increased the size of the grapes for the harvest, which took place under good conditions.
The 2017 harvest started on September 11 with the Merlot and ended on October 4 with the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Château Latour is one of the most famous wineries in the world. It is located in the Bordeaux in Pauillac. It is located on the border with the Saint-Julien wine region. The estate covers 60 hectares and approximately 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and a little cabernet franc and petit are added.
History
Château Latour has played an important role in the history of the region. Throughout the centuries, many old documents about this winery have been preserved in the archives. This unique heritage shows extraordinary stability and continuity in the estate and those who have worked there throughout Latour's long history, which has undoubtedly been an important factor in the exceptional regularity and quality of the wines.
The oldest document with the mention Latour dates from 1331 and is an authorization given by Lord Pons to Gaucelme de Castillon to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert. Château Latour then appears in 1378 in Jean Froissart's "Chronicles". This was the time of the 100 Years' War. The "Tour de Saint Maubert" was a fortress to guard the estuary, manned by Breton soldiers for the King of France. After a three-day siege, the Anglo-Gascon army seized the fort and installed a garrison.
