The Château Latour is one of the most famous wine estates in the world. It is located in the Bordeaux in Pauillac. It is located on the border with the Saint-Julien wine region. Château Latour is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855. The estate covers 60 hectares and is cultivated with approximately 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and a little cabernet franc and petit verdot. Les Forts de Latour takes its name from a historic plot in the « Enclos ». The wine was first labeled with this name in 1966 and constant work to develop the quality has resulted in it reaching the level of a Médoc Grand Cru Classé. It is the 2nd wine of Chateau Latour. Les Forts de Latour is produced with the same meticulous care as the Grand Vin, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The only notable difference, apart from the origin of the grapes, is the proportion of new barrels (50 to 60%) used in the maturation phase and the Forts has a larger proportion of Merlot, which, among other things, ensures that the wine is ready to drink a little earlier than before. the big (more expensive) brother.
After a cold and dry winter, the mild weather in March caused the buds to break out almost at the normal time, on March 29 for the Merlot and April 3 for the Cabernet Sauvignon. In April, significant differences in day and night temperatures were observed, which, together with the lack of rainfall, favored an even and regular development of the vines. However, two nights of spring frost on April 27 and 28 affected 2.6 hectares of Château Latour, mainly on plots outside the Enclos used to make the Pauillac. Rainfall in May was concentrated over just 9 days and this, combined with the early summer heat, led to an early flowering that occurred quickly and evenly in sunny conditions. The first three weeks of June were dry. The dry and moderately hot summer of 2017 with its cool early mornings allowed the grapes to ripen evenly. The rainfall in the first few weeks of September did not jeopardize the harvest and the harvest proceeded in near perfect conditions. The harvest started on September 11 with the Merlot and ended on October 4 with the Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2017 Les Forts de Latour is a blend of 65.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 0.8% Cabernet Franc. In the glass it has an intense, deep color. The nose has great aromatic depth and reveals delicate fruit notes. Delicious mouthfeel with fine, elegant tannins leading to a super energetic finish.

History
Château Latour has played an important role in the history of the region. Throughout the centuries, many old documents about this winery have been preserved in the archives. This unique heritage shows extraordinary stability and continuity in the estate and those who have worked there throughout Latour's long history, which has undoubtedly been an important factor in the exceptional regularity and quality of the wines.
The oldest document with the mention Latour dates from 1331 and is an authorization given by Lord Pons to Gaucelme de Castillon to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert. Château Latour then appears in 1378 in Jean Froissart's "Chronicles". This was the time of the 100 Years' War. The "Tour de Saint Maubert" was a fortress to guard the estuary, manned by Breton soldiers for the King of France. After a three-day siege, the Anglo-Gascon army seized the fort and installed a garrison.
