The Langhe Rosso DOC Ternus is the blend of the typical Piedmont grapes, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. It is a fruity red wine with good structure and elegance. The beautiful terroir vineyards are located in the Barbaresco and Treiso municipalities at an altitude of 300 meters and a south and east sun position. The poor soil consists mainly of sand, marl/limestone rock. The Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes are treated separately and only at the end does the oenologist determine the correct ratio. The grapes are first destemmed and then crushed and then placed in stainless steel thermo-conditioned tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place.

Dolcetto grapes, the alcoholic fermentation lasts from 4 to 6 days at a temperature of 26-28 ° C. Nebbiolo-Barbaera grapes, the alcoholic fermentation lasts from 6 to 8 days at a temperature of 27-29 ° C.

The wines remain in contact with the skins for 2-3 months (temperature of 20-22 ° C) while they complete the malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for 3 to 4 months at a low temperature. The low temperature ensures a quiet and gradual ripening (there is no hurry with Montaribaldi) and also ensures that the deposits and cloudy parts sink down naturally, which makes clarification easier. The Ternus grapes then remain (always separately) in oak barrels (2,500 - 3,000 l) for three months for further aging and then the wines are combined and bottled by the Montaribaldi oenologist (Carlo Arnulfo) and the bottles remain in the bottles for at least another 6 months. the cellars for Montaribaldi before going to market.

In the glass, the Langhe Ternus has an intense purple-red color with notes of raspberry, red currant, a little leather and tobacco and spicy notes in the nose. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied, broad with good structure and pleasant refined tannins. The Barbera and Dolcetta provide the fresh fruit and beautiful acidity and the Nebbiolo gives the wine depth and because everything has been given time at Montaribaldi, the Ternus is a very pleasant glass and an all-rounder. The price/quality of this wine compared to its bigger brothers Barbaresco and Barolo is excellent. Delicious to enjoy on its own, but also perfect with (old) cheeses, risotto funghi or with a pork roast. Tip: drink this with a (well-made) pulled pork sandwich.

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. Montaribaldi grapes grow among the vineyards of Angelo Gaja's famous winery. Not the least to have as neighbors. The owners of the Montaribaldi winery, the brothers Luciano and Roberto Taliano, are happy with their plots of land, which are spread in the Langhe and Monferrato hills. Wine has been made here for centuries and even UNESCO appreciates the interplay of man and nature by recently including this region in the prestigious World Heritage List. Although the Montaribaldi winery has been around for much longer, the brothers have not been in business for very long in wine terms, since 1994. But together with winemaker Carlo Arnulfo, they already make beautiful Piedmont wines with a great price/quality ratio. Montaribaldi makes real Terroir wines in which the soil, the climate and the vines are the basis. Good wine comes from a good healthy vineyard and not from a chemical box is Luciano's statement and we fully agree with this.

The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines originate in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are grown and produced sustainably. As they call it: making 'vineyard wines' sets them apart from others.

Vineyard for 2021 Montaribaldi Ternus Langhe Rosso

The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi winery has been owned by the Taliano family from the beginning and has 19 hectares in the Barberesco area. In 1994 Luciano and Roberto took over the company from their father and immediately decided to only produce high quality wines. It is still a real family business, father Guiseppe and mother Carla as well as the wives of the owners, Antonella and Franca all cooperate. At present they produce about 75000 bottles a year. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the hills in Langhe, the elegant wines that come from them have a long life. Note that the land around the Montaribaldi vineyards is from Gaja. The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines have their origin in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
