The Langhe Rosso DOC Ternus is the blend of the typical Piedmont grapes the Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. It is a fruity red wine with a good structure and elegance. The beautiful terroir vineyards are located in the Barbaresco and Treiso municipalities at an altitude of 300 meters and a south and east sun positioning. The poor soil consists mainly of sand, marl / lime rock. The Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes are treated separately and the oenologist only determines the correct ratio. The grapes are firstly de-stalked and then bruised and then placed in stainless steel thermo-conditioned tanks where the alcoholic fermentation takes place.
Dolcetto grapes, the alcoholic fermentation takes 4 to 6 days at a temperature of 26-28 ° C.
Nebbiolo-Barbaera grapes, the alcoholic fermentation lasts from 6 to 8 days days at a temperature of 27-29 ° C.
The wines stay in contact with the skins for 2-3 months (temperature of 20-22 ° C) while they complete the malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 3 to 4 months at a low temperature. The low temperature ensures a quiet and gradual maturation (one is not in a hurry at Montaribaldi) and also ensures that the deposits and turbid parts sink down naturally, which facilitates clearance. Then the Ternus grapes (always separately) stay in oak barrels (2,500 - 3,000 l) for three months for further aging and then the wines are combined and bottled by the oenologist of Montaribaldo (Carlo Arnulfo) and the bottles stay for at least another 6 months the cellars for Montaribaldi before they go to the market.
In the glass, the Langhe Ternus has an intense purplish red color with in the nose notes of raspberry, red currant, a little leather and tobacco and spicy notes. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied, broad with a good structure and pleasant refined tannins. The Barbera and Dolcetta give the fresh fruit and the beautiful acids and the nebbiolo gives the wine the depth and because everything has been given time at Montaribaldi, the Ternus is a very pleasant glass and an all-rounder. The price / quality of this wine compared to its larger brothers the Barberesco and Barolo is excellent. Delicious to enjoy as well as perfect with (old) cheeses, risotto funghi or with a pork roast. Tip: we drink this with a (well-made) pulled pork sandwich.
The 'azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The grapes of Montaribaldi grow among the vineyards of Angelo Gaja's famous winery. Not the least to have as neighbors. The owners of winery Montaribaldi , the brothers Luciano and Roberto Taliano are therefore happy with their plots of land that are scattered in the Langhe and Monferrato hills. Wine has been made here for centuries and even Unesco appreciates the interplay of man and nature by recently including this region in the prestigious World Heritage List. Although the Montaribaldi winery has been around for much longer, the brothers in wine terms have not been busy for very long, since 1994. But together with winemaker Carlo Arnulfo they are already making beautiful Piedmont wines with a great price / quality ratio.
The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes that are typical of this region. Typical for this winery is that the wines have their origins in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.
