The Trossos Tros Negre is pure Garnacha from the plot called Mas de la Notaria in the village of El Masroig located on a terroir of sand and lime and is biodynamically cultivated. The vineyard was harvested twice at different ripeness and therefore two separate batches were fermented. The wine has aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, but the oak is unobtrusive and very balanced, as befits a top wine. In the nose a mix of wild flowers, orange, red berries and some rusticity of earth. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with very refined tannins and a very good balance. It is best to summarize the wine as subtle and elegant and advice is to give the wine a little more time. The wine was made by Alfredo Arribas of Portal del Montsant who has a number of projects bearing his name. They are all small-scale projects with a focus on very old vines. Only 1324 bottles of this Tros Negre have been bottled.
