Description
Seña 2013 – Chilean top class with Bordeaux allure
The Seña 2013 is the result of the visionary partnership between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, two icons of the wine world. For this exceptional vintage, a refined blend was composed of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmenère, 12% Malbec, 10% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine matured for 22 months in French oak, 70% of which was new – partly in elegant Stockinger foudres – which contributes to the structure and refinement of this iconic wine.
The wine shines in the glass with a deep ruby red color and purple reflections. On the nose it opens with complex aromas of ripe dark fruit, graphite and cedar, followed by subtle floral notes and spices such as cloves and cocoa. On the palate it is powerful and silky at the same time, with a refined acidity and beautifully integrated tannins. The long, layered finish reflects both the finesse of the Old World and the expressive richness of Chile.
'I tasted what can be the finest vintage to date from Seña' - Robert Parker
Internationally acclaimed: James Suckling awarded the 2013 with an impressive 97 points , while Robert Parker was also complimentary with 96 points .
The Seña 2013 is a world-class wine that can easily compete with the biggest names from Bordeaux and Tuscany. Serve it with refined dishes such as rosé roasted rack of lamb, dry-aged entrecote or game with a strong sauce – a culinary highlight guaranteed.

The 2013 Seña might very well be their finest vintage to date. 2013 was a cool vintage that favored fresh flavors and elegant and pure wines full of nuances. At Viña Seña, they took advantage of the natural conditions and produced a stunning blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carménère, 12% Malbec, 10% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, sourced from their 42 hectares of vineyards planted some 16 years ago in the Aconcagua Valley. The varietal mix has been fine tuned and the oak has also been gradually reduced during the last few years. The process was pretty straightforward, fermentation in stainless steel and aging in French oak barrels (75% of them new) for 22 months. It has a subtle nose with aromas of red and black fruit denoting very good freshness, and the classical tobacco and cracked peppercorns, with the oak nicely integrated adding some spices and faint smoky aromas. The red fruit is remarkable and really adds freshness. Linear, juicy, sharp and long, very tasty and with very fine, slightly grainy tannins. There is superb balance, classical proportion and symmetry. I have not tasted all of the vintages of Seña (one day...), but out of all the years I've tried, this is certainly the best. I'm sure this will bloom in bottle and will have a long development. 60,000 bottles were filled.
I tasted what can be the finest vintage to date from Seña with winemaker Francisco Baettig. He's doing a great job.

Seña Valle de Aconcagua 2013

Vintage: 2013
Superb aromas of black currants, rose petal and mint. Lavender and stones too. Full body with incredible fruit density. Complex, yet it's agile and bright. Tannins are perfectly polished. It builds on the palate and shows the structure of a first growth Bordeaux but remains so Chilean. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 15% carmenere, 12% malbec, 10% merlot, and 5% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. This is a joy to taste now but it will show itself in 2019. Even better than the amazing 2012.

The Viña Seña winery is located in Valle de Aconcagua. It was founded in 1995 by two charismatic winemakers: the Chilean Eduardo Chadwick, the owner of Viña Errazurriz and legendary Californian Robert Mondavi. What started as an ambitious dream at the time - producing a world-class wine in Chile - has now found countless followers. Nevertheless, the Seña remains in a class of its own. The futuristic bodega, designed by the Chilean star architect Germán del Sol, is spectacular. But the main property of the winery is the 42 hectares of vineyards, surrounded by breathtaking nature on various soils and planted with cabernet sauvignon, carmenère, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, malbec and syrah. In short, the traditional varieties. The conditions for growing wine are so good here that you can work organically without tools. Needless to say, a winery like Viña Seña has the very best and most modern technology in the wine cellar. The responsible oenologist has been Francisco Baettig since 2003, a student of Michel Laroche and Michel Rolland. The latter has even improved the five most recent volumes of the Seña. The joint venture with Robert Mondavi ended in 2005, but the visionary's spirit is still ubiquitous. Viña Seña is one of the greatest icons of the wine world.
