The Sierra Catanbria Gran Reserva from the Spanish top winery Sierra Cantabria is only made in the good years. The Gran Reserva is a blend of mainly Tempranillo with a little Graciano from vineyards older than 30 years. The wine matures for 26 months in American oak, of which 25% is new oak and 75% is 2nd or maximum 3rd year. The wine is bottled without filtration. The wine is then left to mature in the bottle for years before it is released. After 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010, the 2014 is now the successor.
The wine is surprisingly soft and elegant at the first taste, but after some rolling a palette of scents is released. In the nose we smell beautiful notes of sandalwood, Asian herbs, incense, violets, minerals and various black fruits, leading to a sturdy, powerful wine with excellent volume & concentration with densely packed, layered fruit. Already delicious to drink, but we recommend opening the wine an hour in advance or decanting it differently.
“Character, identity and expression of Rioja Sonsierra. Elegant aroma, tasty red fruit on the palate with silky tannins and ripe” Marco Eguren

The Spanish winery Sierra Cantabria was founded in 1957 by Guillermo Eguren and is one of Hermanos Eguren's beautiful wineries. Sierra Cantabria is located in the Rioja in a unique location between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The Sierra Cantabria Mountains (1200m.) And the River Ebro (350m.) Provide a special microclimate with Mediterranean and continental features - mild winters and mild summers, unique to wine growing.
On the other hand, the thermal summer jump (intense heat during the day with fresh night temperatures) increases the polyphenol content, which makes for excellent quality wines with a distinctive character.
The vineyards of Bodega Sierra Cantabria are mainly located in the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida and Laguardia, an area very well known for wine growing.
The Tempranillo variety predominates, along with small amounts of Garnacha, Viura and 'Hairy Tempranillo', all of which are grown in vineyards about 35 years old, although there are also plots up to 70 years old.The harvest is carried out by hand every year, paying special attention to the rigorous selection of the grapes that are the soul of the wine, in optimal condition and in perfect ripening conditions. The careful harvest is followed by a thorough separation of the bunches, which is done on a selection table at the entrance of the winery. Winemaking is aimed at minimal intervention in the winery to fully respect the character of the terroir
