Description
Winery Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is one of Burgundy's most iconic wineries. Located in Vosne-Romanée, the estate boasts some of the world's most famous Grand Cru vineyards and operates entirely biodynamically. The focus is on low yields, whole-cluster fermentation where appropriate, and meticulous oak aging. The style is characterized by finesse, tension, and exceptional terroir expression. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
Vineyards and grape varieties
The Richebourg Grand Cru is planted entirely with Pinot Noir and is among the most powerful terroirs in Vosne-Romanée. Harvesting took place on September 20th and 21st in 2014, with a yield of approximately 29.75 hl/ha. The vineyard is characterized by calcareous clay with excellent drainage, which contributes to structure, depth, and a pronounced minerality. Production amounted to approximately 1,160 cases, making this wine a very limited allocation.
Harvest, vinification and maturation
The 2014 growing season was relatively cool with a favorable late summer, allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly while retaining their freshness. After rigorous selection, traditional vinification followed, with full aging in French oak barrels. The focus was on precision and balance, with careful control of extraction to preserve both aromatic refinement and structure. The result is a Richebourg with pronounced energy and ageing potential.
Color, smell and taste
In the glass, the 2014 Richebourg displays a deep ruby red color with vibrant reflections. The bouquet is expressive and refined, with notes of ripe red cherries, crushed strawberries, and rose petals, supported by subtle spice and a hint of white pepper. As the wine opens, nuances of black truffle and an almost salty, maritime undertone emerge. The attack is energetic and precise, with finely tuned tannins and an impressive backbone. The finish is exceptionally long, layered, and mineral-driven, with tension and depth that will continue to develop for years to come.
Vintage and drinking window
The 2014 is considered a classic Burgundy vintage with an emphasis on elegance and structure. With a score of 96 points and a drinking window ranging from 2020 to 2055, this Richebourg displays both early charm and impressive aging potential. While it already displays great precision and refinement, further bottle aging will bring additional complexity and harmony.

The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru was picked on 20 and 21 September at 29.75 hectoliters per hectare. This has a gorgeous, flamboyant, vivacious bouquet with blossoming red cherries, crushed strawberry, less undergrowth scents compared to the showing in barrel, replaced by pressed rose petal notes. There is wonderful delineation and exuberance here. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively, spicy, white pepper-tinged entry, just a faint hint of black truffle tincturing the dark berry fruit. There is superb backbone and density here, a Richebourg delivering on its promise from barrel, plus it comes armed with an extraordinarily long aftertaste that evokes marine-like images, something wild and estuarine. While not as flattering as the Romanée-Saint-Vivant at the moment, just wait ten years. 1,160 cases produced. Tasted February 2017.

From: One Night in Taipei: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg 1995-2017 (Jun 2025)
The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet with wonderful transparency and Pinoté, displaying vivid red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, lively and tensile. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of energy right from the start. It boasts finely tuned tannins, none of the greenness that afflicts some of its peers, with real nerve and structure towards the finish that fans out with elan. Classy and riveting, this punches above expectations. Tasted at the Richebourg vertical dinner in Taipei.
