Description
Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 is a rosé Champagne that expresses the intensity of an exceptional terroir. The Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 is made from 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay.
Partial and traditional vinification in wooden barrels (70%) contributes to greater complexity without premature oxidation. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, so the natural acidity balances the terroir's strength.
For the 2014 vintage, 30% of the wine was made as a saignée rosé, with a cold maceration before fermentation. The low dosage (4.5 g/l) emphasizes the vinosity and minerality of this exceptional vineyard. The wine is aged for a long time (10 years) at a constant temperature of 12°C in the estate's historic cellars in Mareuil-sur-Ay.
The Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé has a pale pink color with a lingering, fine mousse. Elegant on the nose, with notes of mandarin and pomegranate juice. After aeration, spicy notes of white pepper emerge. Fresh and silky on the palate, fruity aromas of mandarin mingle with peach and a subtle spiciness. The finish reveals a pleasant mineral tension, thanks to the saignée rosé.
Ratings: 93-95 Vinous (A. Galloni), 97 The Wine Independent (L. Perrotti-Brown), 96 The Drinks Business (Colin Hay)
Particulars
The Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 is the tenth rosé cuvée from Clos des Goisses since 1999. This legendary champagne for collectors and connoisseurs is produced in limited quantities of 2,000 to 3,000 bottles per vintage. The Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 is not only a refined champagne but also an exceptional wine. It is the perfect complement to dishes with strong flavors, such as roasted pigeon with raspberries. This champagne matures in the cellar for over nine years and is only released when it is perfectly ripe. After that, it can be kept for decades.

Evoking aromas of strawberries, red berries, spices, papaya, rose petals and baked bread, the 2014 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé is a stunning Champagne rosé. Full-bodied, vinous and layered, it's concentrated and has a structured mid-palate, racy acids and a long, mineral, dense finish. This blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay was disgorged in March 2024 with 4.5 grams per liter dosage, with only 2,820 bottles produced. Undoubtedly, this is a gastronomic Champagne that could age gracefully over the next 30 years or more.
Champagne Philipponnat has undoubtedly made significant strides since Charles Philipponnat took the helm of the eponymous house, which is part of Lanson-BCC. With mastery over grape sourcing, optimization of the winemaking process and a strong focus on expressing the uniqueness of different terroirs—whether from Clos des Goisses or other vineyards—the Champagnes are pure, crystalline and vinous, showcasing remarkable aging potential. During my recent visit, in the company of Charles and his son François, I witnessed this qualitative evolution firsthand, and I must say that the 2015 Clos des Goisses stands out as one of the most precise and impressive of the “modern era,” while their rosé Champagnes are equally splendid. I strongly urge readers who appreciate saline, gastronomic wines to explore the entire range from this outstanding house.

From: Champagne: The 2024 Spring Preview (Mar 2024)
The 2014 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé is another super-promising wine from Philipponnat. In fact, it may turn out to be even better than the Blanc. The decision to blend in 29% saignée Pinot (the highest ever here) and skip the addition of still red wine has paid off big time. In this tasting, the 2014 Juste Rosé shows notable depth and textural resonance. It is more complex and layered than the Blanc, with plenty of blood orange, floral and mineral character that lingers. I tasted it à la volée, with no dosage, rather than as a fully finished wine.

Philipponnat is a fine example of a traditional house that has added to its range with a set of smaller, site-specific wines. I also tasted two future releases of Clos des Goisses disgorged à la volée, in other words, on the spot, with no added dosage, both of which are quite promising.

The history of the Philipponnat family in Champagne goes back to no less than 1697. In the centuries that followed, the family was active in making Champagne for many years. The traditional Champagne House Philipponnat was finally founded in 1910 by Auguste and Pierre Philipponnat. They managed to get hold of beautiful historic cellars, which originated in the 18th century. The house is located in Mareuil-sur-Ay, five kilometers east of Epernay, in the heart of the Champagne region.
The cool cellars are the perfect place for the Champagnes to mature on the yeast cells, giving the wine complexity and fine bubbles. Philipponnat wines undergo a bottle aging of at least two years, but usually even three years. In the case of the Millésimé, this period is even longer. The wine of the Clos des Goisses is even stored in the cellar for years, so that it can keep its fresh and complex character for years.
Philipponnat has a total of 17 hectares of vineyards, all with Grand Cru status. In addition, grapes are purchased from first-class producers in the area. We only work with suppliers who guarantee perfect quality grapes and with whom Philipponnat maintains a long-term relationship. The production is 500,000 bottles per year. The wines mainly use pinot – noir – grapes, which give the wines breadth and complexity.
