De La Piu Belle van VIK is een blend van 76% Carmenere, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon en 5% Cabernet Franc komende van de wijngaarden in de Andes in Millahue, Cachapoal-vallei. De bodem bestaat uit iepe, poreuze ontbonden granietbodem met goede drainage. De wijn heeft 24 maanden veroudering gehad in 85% Franse eikenhouten en 15% in Barroir (geroosterde eikenhouten vaten van bomen op eigen terrein). Deze uitvoering is een magnum van 1.5 liter. De uitmonstering is een sierraad op tafel.
La Piu Belle is een briljante intense wijn. Afwijkend van de vele Carmanere gedreven wijnen want we praten hier over een elegante en frisse wijn en niet over de vaak zeer 'jammy-achtige' wijnen. De hoogte, de koele vochtige wind van de stille oceaan en het grote verschil tussen dag- en nacht temperaturen geeft een waanzinnige wijn met zwart fruit en verfrissende kruiden met bloemen, zoals viooltjes en lavendel en rozenblaadjes die de complexe lagen van smaken zeer elegant omlijsten. Dit tesamen met prachtige zuren zorgt voor een geweldige balans en ons doet verlangen. De Piu Belle toont het de andere persoonlijkheid van de Carmenere, juist de elegante en complexe kant. FDit is een meditatieve wijn om van te genieten en bij weg te dromen. De kunst op de fles maakt het ook nog eens een sierraad en is natuurlijk een aanrader bij o.a. runderfilet gevuld met geitenkaas vergezeld van gnocchi van pompoen en salie. Ook heerlijk bij Gerookte eendenborst, gegrilde zalm.
Suckling schrijft in zijn beoordeling (95/100): ".....This is seamless and polished, underscored by ultra-fine, almost ethereal tannins, before a lengthy finish. ...."

Over Viña Vik Winery
In 2004 begonnen Alex en Carrie Vik met een heel team met het gedurfde doel om een van de beste wijnen ter wereld te maken. Na een zoektocht van twee jaar vond men het beste terroir, gelegen in de Millahue-vallei in Chili. Millahue Valley betekent "Plaats van Goud".
De wijngaard is geplant in het binnenland van de vallei en biedt een verscheidenheid aan terroirs en kleine microklimaten die worden gekoeld door de kustbries. De wijngaarden bestaan uit Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Merlot en Syrah.
Het wijnhuis is ontworpen door de Chileense architect Smiljan Radic in samenwerking met Alex en Carrie Vik. Het is zorgvuldig ontworpen om een minimale impact op het landschap te hebben. Een state-of-the-art, zeer duurzame, technologisch creatieve en visueel adembenemende ervaring. In 2014 was het wijnhuis gereed.
Onder leiding van de Chileen Patrick Valette (wijnconsulent, Château Pavie en met Franse wortels) en van het begin af aan bij het project betrokken huidig wijnmaker Cristián Vallejo is sinds 2005 een prachtig bedrijf neergezet. Er wordt zeer sustainable gewerkt, oogsten zijn volledig handmatig en de fermentatie vindt op natuurlijke wijze plaatsvindt zonder toegevoegde gisten.
Vandaag produceert VIK vier uitzonderlijke rode wijnen en een rosé. Ze zijn er terecht zeer trots op dat VIK, La Piu Belle, Milla Cala en "A" tot ver in de jaren 90 beoordelingen hebben ontvangen, zoals 99 punten van James Suckling, een Master-medaille van The Drink Business en platina en gouden medailles van de Decanter, samen met vele andere onderscheidingen.
Een waterspiegel in de wijnkelder koelt de vaten-kelder zonder energie te verbruiken. Het lichtdoorlatende dak maakt dagwerk mogelijk zonder kunstlicht. Geïnspireerd door de puurheid van onze wijnen, hebben we het concept van "Barroir" ontwikkeld. We roosteren gebruikte en nieuwe Franse vaten met eikenhout uit onze heuvels en bouwen eigen vaten in onze kuiperij. Deze door het landgoed vervaardigde vaten belichamen de smaak van het terroir. Omdat ze al het werk holistisch benaderen, gebruiken ze alleen omgevallen honderdjarige bomen die op het immense landgoed te vinden zijn.
In 2019 onthulde Wine Enthusiast Magazine hun 20e jaarlijkse Wine Star Awards en noemde VIK de Wine Star voor 'Best Winery Experience'. In 2021 rangschikte de competitie VIK als 8e prestigieus wijnhuis onder de 50 World's Best Vineyards en iViña Vik heeft zich dus heel snel bij de icoonwijnen uit Chili gevoegd en nu dus ook tot de wereldwijde top.

The 2020 La Piu Belle was produced with a blend of 68% Carmenere, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc, fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel, 45% of them new and from Chilean oak, for 26 months, including malolactic, with 15% of the wine kept in clay pots produced from the clay in their soils. It's quite ripe and heady and hits the scale at 14.7% alcohol with 3.36 grams of residual sugar. This comes from a warmer part of the vineyard and is mostly Carmenere, so it has a slightly different profile from the rest of the reds. It's peppery and herbal with high ripeness, a round and lush palate that's generously oaked and with some tannins that would welcome powerful food. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022.

Ripe and plush to the nose with some opulent spicy fruit, blackberries, dark plums and a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied and rich on the palate with dense, nicely chewy tannins and a pretty long finish. Nice acidity freshens it up. A blend of carmenere, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. 23 months in barrels, of which 45% is new Barroir oak (French barrels toasted with local oak trees). Around 15% of the wine was aged in amphorae made with local clay for eight months. Drink from 2025.

The 2019 Red Blend La Piu Belle consists of 44% Carménère aged in amphorae, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, and 1% Merlot from Millahue, Cachapoal. Garnet red in color, with intense floral notes, sweet spices, blackberry and prune, it’s juicy and fruity on the palate, where grippy tannins make themselves felt on the gums. Broad and medium-volume.

The 2020 La Piu Belle consists of 68% Carménère, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Cabernet Franc from Millahue, Cachapoal. It was aged for 20 months in French barrels and 5 in amphorae. Garnet red in the glass. The nose is dominated by balsamic, dry forest aromas over blackberry notes and hints of ash. Indulgent with a voluminous palate, the expansive ripe fruit character lent by the warm year intensifies the bold expression.

Viña Vik is in 2005 opgericht door Alexander Vik, een vermogende Noor die in de VS werkt en woont. Vik is bekend om zijn boutique hotels en als kunstverzamelaar. Samen met zijn vrouw Carrie is vanaf het begin het doel geweest om een Zuid-Amerikaanse topwijn te gaan maken.
Perfect Terroir voor een Ongeëvenaarde Wijngaard
Na een grondig terroir-onderzoek bleek het bergachtige gedeelte van de Cachapoal Valley, de Millahue Valley, het meest geschikt. Het 4.325 ha grote domein ligt 100 km ten zuiden van Santiago en er zijn ruim 300 werknemers in dienst op het wijnbedrijf en in het hotel. Onder leiding van de Chileen Patrick Valette (wijnconsulent, ex Château Pavie en met Franse wortels) en huidig wijnmaker Cristián Vallejo, is sinds 2005 een prachtig bedrijf neergezet.
Onbetwiste Topklasse: VIK Wines
De absolute top uit Chili is zonder twijfel VIK Wines. Alle wijnen krijgen unaniem zeer hoge beoordelingen met scores van 98 en 99 uit 100 punten. Ze hebben 4 rode wijnen en hebben in 2022 ook een rosé gelanceerd.
Bij VIK zijn wetenschap, technologie en kennis de basis met passie als motor. De holistische aanpak combineert de mens en natuur tot de perfecte basis, waarbij best practices op het gebied van wijnbouw en milieubeheer leiden tot wijnen waarin alleen het allerbeste goed genoeg is.

James Suckling benadrukte ook de wijninnovaties van VIK, zoals het Barroir-concept, een pioniersproces dat het concept van terroir tot zijn puurste vorm brengt.
Over de Wijngaarden
De wijngaarden zijn geplant in 12 kleine valleien, in totaal 327 hectare met wijnstokken. Er werden meer dan 6.000 bodemanalyses uitgevoerd om de klonale selectie van onderstammen en variëteiten te matchen. De aangeplante variëteiten zijn Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Merlot en Syrah. Bodemsoorten omvatten colluviale, alluviale, zand, klei en grindsteen. De VIK wijnen worden gezien qua stijl als de Bordeaux maar dan van het beste soort.
De Kunst van Wijnmaken bij VIK
Het wijnbouwconcept bij VIK is gebaseerd op de techniek van het optimaliseren van elke fase van druiventeelt en wijnproductie, met een belangrijke focus op wetenschap en technologie. Om druiven van alleen de beste kwaliteit te verkrijgen, voeren ze tot drie nachtelijke oogsten uit wanneer de druiven het koelst zijn — en altijd handmatig.
Duurzame Ontwikkeling bij VIK
Bij VIK is duurzame ontwikkeling een andere fundamentele pijler die voortkomt uit de zorg voor het milieu waarin de druiven groeien. Enkele van de maatregelen zijn: eigen waterzuiveringsinstallatie voor hergebruik van water, zorg voor de natuurlijke biodiversiteit dankzij de geografische geïsoleerde ligging, en een zeer duurzame, ultramoderne wijnmakerij die gebruik maakt van gratis koeling, zonne-energie en natuurlijke isolatie.

Ripe and plush to the nose with some opulent spicy fruit, blackberries, dark plums and a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied and rich on the palate with dense, nicely chewy tannins and a pretty long finish. Nice acidity freshens it up. A blend of carmenere, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. 23 months in barrels, of which 45% is new Barroir oak (French barrels toasted with local oak trees). Around 15% of the wine was aged in amphorae made with local clay for eight months. Drink from 2025.

The 2019 Red Blend La Piu Belle consists of 44% Carménère aged in amphorae, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, and 1% Merlot from Millahue, Cachapoal. Garnet red in color, with intense floral notes, sweet spices, blackberry and prune, it’s juicy and fruity on the palate, where grippy tannins make themselves felt on the gums. Broad and medium-volume.

Norwegian businessman Alexander Vik arrived in Cachapoal in 2006 and set up a luxury hotel and a winery on a 4,200-hectare estate in the Millahue region. The property, situated on the north side of the Cordón Apalta, contains 323 hectares of vineyard, whose grapes are processed at a pretty winery under the supervision of Cristian Vallejos. Following the 2018 harvest, the focus has shifted to the brands Vik, La Piu Belle and Milla Cala.

The 2020 La Piu Belle consists of 68% Carménère, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Cabernet Franc from Millahue, Cachapoal. It was aged for 20 months in French barrels and 5 in amphorae. Garnet red in the glass. The nose is dominated by balsamic, dry forest aromas over blackberry notes and hints of ash. Indulgent with a voluminous palate, the expansive ripe fruit character lent by the warm year intensifies the bold expression.

He and his wife Carrie have applied the same Nordic precision when creating Viña Vik, one of Chile's most ambitious wineries, from 4,400 hectares of scrub-covered hillside in the Cachapoal Valley. Star winemaker Patrick Valette, who learnt the trade at his family's Chateau Pavie in France, established the vineyard from scratch, planting 303 hectares of high-density, drip-fed Cabernet and Carmenere vines that yielded the first ultra-premium blend in March. "We wanted to bring the quality of a top estate in Bordeaux," said Patrick Valette, the head winemaker at Viña Vik, stopping to take a look at a particularly ripe bunch of grapes, "while emphasizing what makes the Chilean terroir so unique". … This is especially evident at the Viña Vik, which, though separated from Colchagua by the imposing mountain range, has similar, if not better, conditions for grape growing: plenty of sun, an ideal level of precipitation and varied altitudes and soil types. The estate itself has a state-of-the-art cantina, designed by a star Chilean architect, Smiljan Radic. Results suggest that they are on the right path: their first vintage, the 2009, sold out at $100 a bottle — though we were able to get a taste before it did; it is a delicious red blend, combining five different grapes, with complex flavors of ripe fruit and a long finish. For Old World palates like mine, it’s a familiar taste but one different enough to prove exciting — like a continent-spanning offshoot of Bordeaux. Viña Vik is in 2005 opgericht door Alexander Vik, een vermogende Noor die in de VS werkt en woont. Vik is bekend om zijn boutique hotels en als kunstverzamelaar. Samen met zijn vrouw Carrie is vanaf het begin het doel geweest om een Zuid-Amerikaanse topwijn te gaan maken.
Perfect Terroir voor een Ongeëvenaarde Wijngaard
Na een grondig terroir-onderzoek bleek het bergachtige gedeelte van de Cachapoal Valley, de Millahue Valley, het meest geschikt. Het 4.325 ha grote domein ligt 100 km ten zuiden van Santiago en er zijn ruim 300 werknemers in dienst op het wijnbedrijf en in het hotel. Onder leiding van de Chileen Patrick Valette (wijnconsulent, ex Château Pavie en met Franse wortels) en huidig wijnmaker Cristián Vallejo, is sinds 2005 een prachtig bedrijf neergezet.
Onbetwiste Topklasse: VIK Wines
De absolute top uit Chili is zonder twijfel VIK Wines. Alle wijnen krijgen unaniem zeer hoge beoordelingen met scores van 98 en 99 uit 100 punten. Ze hebben 4 rode wijnen en hebben in 2022 ook een rosé gelanceerd.
Bij VIK zijn wetenschap, technologie en kennis de basis met passie als motor. De holistische aanpak combineert de mens en natuur tot de perfecte basis, waarbij best practices op het gebied van wijnbouw en milieubeheer leiden tot wijnen waarin alleen het allerbeste goed genoeg is.
Onderscheidingen en Innovaties
In 2019 ontving VIK de prijs "Best Winery Experience" van het prestigieuze Wine Enthusiast-magazine, een erkenning voor al het werk dat in deze jaren is gedaan. James Suckling benadrukte ook de wijninnovaties van VIK, zoals het Barroir-concept, een pioniersproces dat het concept van terroir tot zijn puurste vorm brengt.
Over de Wijngaarden
De wijngaarden zijn geplant in 12 kleine valleien, in totaal 327 hectare met wijnstokken. Er werden meer dan 6.000 bodemanalyses uitgevoerd om de klonale selectie van onderstammen en variëteiten te matchen. De aangeplante variëteiten zijn Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Merlot en Syrah. Bodemsoorten omvatten colluviale, alluviale, zand, klei en grindsteen. De VIK wijnen worden gezien qua stijl als de Bordeaux maar dan van het beste soort.
De Kunst van Wijnmaken bij VIK
Het wijnbouwconcept bij VIK is gebaseerd op de techniek van het optimaliseren van elke fase van druiventeelt en wijnproductie, met een belangrijke focus op wetenschap en technologie. Om druiven van alleen de beste kwaliteit te verkrijgen, voeren ze tot drie nachtelijke oogsten uit wanneer de druiven het koelst zijn — en altijd handmatig.
Duurzame Ontwikkeling bij VIK
Bij VIK is duurzame ontwikkeling een andere fundamentele pijler die voortkomt uit de zorg voor het milieu waarin de druiven groeien. Enkele van de maatregelen zijn: eigen waterzuiveringsinstallatie voor hergebruik van water, zorg voor de natuurlijke biodiversiteit dankzij de geografische geïsoleerde ligging, en een zeer duurzame, ultramoderne wijnmakerij die gebruik maakt van gratis koeling, zonne-energie en natuurlijke isolatie.
