Furmint

Hungarian white grape, which derives its status from the wines from Tokaj. Furmint is the dominant variety there, accounting for about two-thirds of the plantings. It has naturally high acidity, but also high sugar values and is prone to noble rot. Thanks to those acids, sweet Tokaj wine has a very long lifespan. By mixing furmint with hárslevelű and muscat, this wine also has an enormous complexity. In Tokaj, dry wine is also increasingly made from only furmint.

What does Furmint wine taste like?

the increasingly popular dry varieties of the Furmint wines are somewhat smoky with notes of orange, pear and lime zest. Tokay can age well because of its high acidity. These wines become browner in color and develop a herbaceous and nutty character.
