Cabernet Franc, mainly used as a blend in Bordeaux wines, is the specialty in the Anjou-Villages designation in the Loire Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon is a close second. Anjou-Villages can be produced in a fairly large area of the Middle Loire covering the districts of Coteaux-du-Layon, Anjou Coteaux-de-la-Loire and Savennières. Here, the terroir of slate soils, hillside vineyards and the temperate maritime climate of the region around the city of Angers provide a perfect environment for these two varieties to combine into deeply intense, full-bodied and hearty red wines.

Anjou-Villages Brissac is a separate designation within the Coteaux de l'Aubance. Their wines are made from the same varieties and are highly prized.
