Champagne Palmer & Co and the tradition of the Montagne de Reims

Champagne Palmer & Co. has been established in Reims for decades and is known for a style that combines elegance, aging, and finesse. The cooperative works exclusively with high-quality grapes and has built a reputation for wines with depth and freshness. Palmer's cellars, deep beneath the city of Reims, offer ideal conditions for extended aging. This gives the wines their characteristic soft mousse and layered structure. Within the portfolio, the Blanc de Blancs is one of the most refined cuvées, based entirely on Chardonnay from premier cru plots that the estate considers its finest assets.

Origin and character of the Blanc de Blancs

The Palmer Blanc de Blancs is made primarily from Chardonnay grapes grown on the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims, a region with chalky soils that impart tension, purity, and minerality. The terroir produces wines with refined structure, citrus-driven freshness, and an almost chalky elegance. Thanks to the cool conditions, the grapes ripen slowly, preserving their aromatic complexity and bright acidity. The 2018 vintage enjoyed an excellent balance between warmth and freshness, with beautiful fruit ripeness without sacrificing power.

The style of the Blanc de Blancs from Palmer & Co

Palmer chooses a vinification method that emphasizes the minerality and freshness of Chardonnay. The base wine is vinified in stainless steel to preserve its aromatic clarity. After the second fermentation, it is aged for a long time in chalk cellars, which gives the wine a fine mousse and subtle brioche notes. The style always focuses on balance: sufficient roundness and depth, but never heavy or creamy. The Blanc de Blancs is one of the house's most refined examples, displaying a combination of citrus, floral notes, and subtle toast.

The 2018 Champagne Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs

The 2018 vintage opens with notes of lemon, white blossom, green apple, and light brioche. As the wine opens, nuances of stone fruit, almond, and a chalky minerality emerge. This vintage is known for its ripe fruit expression, yet maintains a beautiful tension typical of Palmer's style. The balance between ripeness and finesse gives the wine great gastronomic versatility.

Vinification, mousse and mouthfeel

After the second fermentation, the wine was aged extensively on the lees, resulting in a soft, refined mousse and additional layers of texture. The pure Chardonnay expression remains prominent, supported by subtle brioche notes and a light creaminess. The palate is taut, elegant, and refreshing, with a mineral tension typical of the chalky soils of the Montagne de Reims. The finish is clear, long, and precise, with notes of citrus, almond, and chalky finesse.

Color, aroma and taste of the 2018 Blanc de Blancs

The color is light gold with fine, energetic bubbles. The aroma reveals citrus, apple, white flowers, lime blossom, and subtle brioche. The palate is refined and mineral, with a combination of fresh acidity, soft mousse, and elegant roundness. The finish retains notes of citrus, white stone fruit, and a chalky purity. The wine is both highly appealing now and also suitable for several years of bottle aging.

Palmer & Co is a winery known for its high-quality champagnes. The company was founded in 1947 in the city of Reims, located in the Champagne region of France. The house is named after its founder, André Palmer, and it started as a small family business. Palmer & Co owns vineyards in various parts of the Champagne region, including the famous areas of Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. These different terroirs enable the champagne house to grow high-quality grapes. Traditional methods are used for the production of Champagne, such as the méthode champenoise, where the second fermentation takes place in the bottle, which contributes to the development of the bubbles and the complexity of the taste.

The Champagnes from Palmer & Co.

We as grand cru wines sell the Palmer & Co Brut Réserve and the Palmer & Co Blanc de Blances. The Brut Réserve is the most accessible champagne. It is a Brut Champagne with rich taste and complex aromas of white flowers, peach and citrus fruits. Palmer & Co uses more than 30% crus for this Champagne. The Champagne is fermented in a stainless steel tank that's under strong temprature control. We also have the Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs. This is a Champange made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. This results in an elegant and fresh champagne with notes of citrus and minerality. This wine is also fermented in a stainless steel tank that is under strong temperature control.
