Description
The Champagne Jacquesson Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 is mainly based on the 2019 harvest, supplemented with approximately 30% reserve wines that have matured in the cellars for several years. This cuvée is composed of the three traditional grape varieties of Champagne: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The grapes come from vineyards with chalky soils, which contributes to the finesse and purity of the wine. After careful vinification, the wine is matured on lattes, with an extra-brut dosage of only 1.5 g/l, resulting in a pure and lively champagne.
The Jacquesson Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 has a lively, delicate bouquet of white pepper, mandarin, lemon oil, spices and red berries mingled with delicious menthol notes. Medium to full bodied, tense and juicy, layered with a fruity core of fruit and a delicate salty finish.
The Jacquesson champagnes are the absolute top among Champagnes. Excellent quality and excellent price-quality. It is not without reason that the Jacquesson champagnes consistently receive high ratings from all wine institutes. The Jacquesson Champagne has been awarded 3 stars in the classification of La Revue du Vin de France. This classification gives a quality assessment of the 1,300 best wineries in France. The assessment is expressed in stars. A rating of three stars is the maximum that can be obtained. The previous cuvee 73x and 74x have all been awarded (more than) 90+ Parker points.

Based on the 2019 vintage, the NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 reveals a lively, delicate bouquet of white pepper, tangerine, lemon oil, herbs and red berries mingled with lovely menthol notes. Medium to full-bodied, tense and sappy, it's layered with a vinous core of fruit and a delicately saline finish. This is not the most opulent iteration from this house but rather an edition that closely reflects the character of the vintage, marked by its tension and phenolic complexity.
Year after year, Jacquesson’s quality has improved significantly. Now under the ownership of French entrepreneur François Pinault—who also owns prestigious estates such as Château Latour, Château Grillet, Château d’Eugénie, Clos de Tart and Eisele Vineyards—the house is poised to continue producing Champagnes with exceptional freshness and crystalline textures. The range is impressively consistent, and each cuvée beautifully reflects the soul and the distinct terroirs of this house based in Dizy.

A structured and creamy-textured Jacquesson NV with a very fine-bubble texture and lovely polish. It's medium- to full-bodied with length and sophistication, in a friendly and approachable way. Yet there is something that tells you it's going to deliver more with aging. More pinot in the blend than in other years, because the chardonnay was affected by frost, and it is impressive. Chewy at the end with phenolic tension and a slight bitterness, though in a good way. 2019 base. Three years on the yeast. Dosage 1.5g/L. Drink or hold.

From: Champagne: The 2024 Spring Preview and Fall Additions (Dec 2024)
The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 (2019 base) marries textural richness with notable vibrancy. Lemon confit, mint, white pepper, tangerine peel and graphite lend energy throughout. All the elements are very nicely balanced. I especially admire the textural depth here. Spring frost was particularly damaging to the Chardonnay, so the blend is distinctly Pinot-leaning in this release. Dosage is 1.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 2023.

This was my first visit to Jacquesson since the estate was acquired by Artémis Domaines in 2022. It will be interesting to see where the team, led by Managing Director Jean Garandeau and cellar master Yann Le Gall, takes the wines. For now, these current releases are still the work of the Chiquet brothers. The 2013 Aÿ Vauzelle Terme, in particular, is off the charts.

Champagne Jacquesson - Our favourite Champagne or Our favourite people in Champagne
“We harvested the Pinots Meuniers earlier than in the past few years in order to gain greater crispness. Previously, we had gone some way down the road in the search for maturity. Now, especially with our lower yields, we have changed our policy.” The Chiquet brothers harvest less than 10,000 kg per hectare compared with the average in Champagne of 13,600 kg/ha. It was with them that we had our best tasting of the 2008 vins clairs. The Chardonnay which often lacks depth elsewhere, has a higher alcoholic content here than the Pinots Noirs. Laurent’s favourite cuvée , a paragon of this style, is the Dizy Corne Bautray (which was picked on 29 September 2008 at 11.5 degrees). An immense wine of great density which fills the mouth, with beautiful acidity on the finish. Jean-Hervé’s preference is for the Pinot Noir of Ay Vauzelle Terme (harvested on 26 September at 10.9 degrees) – a terrific Pinot Noir where the blocked “malo” has given it great firmness in the finish without adding and harsh notes to its mellow texture. The only problem is that we have to wait until at least 2016 before these wines are released!

Jacquesson Champagne was founded in 1798 by Memmie Jacquesson in Chalons-en-Champagne. Memmie gave the new house its name and was immediately very successful: Jacquesson was one of Napoleon's favorite houses. His son Adolphe further developed the company and worked with Dr. Jules Guyot - still known today for his worldwide cutting technique and his patent on the muselet (the metal wire basket to secure the champagne cork). The early deaths of Adolphe's two sons marked the end of the family line and the temporary decline of the champagne house.
In 1974, Champagne Jacquesson was taken over by the Chiquet family and the core of the company moved to Dizy amid its own vineyards. The house features premier crus and grand crus vineyards in the villages of Dizy, Avize and Aÿ in La Grande Vallée de la Marne and La Côte des Blancs (named after the color of the grapes; around 95% of the grapes grown here consists of chardonnay). Champagne Jacquesson has 31.5 ha of its own vineyard and uses 10 ha of contracted, friendly winegrowers who work according to the same rules as those working in their own vineyards.
Jacquesson champagnes are the absolute top of the Champagnes. Excellent quality and excellent price-quality. Not for nothing did the cha, pagnes invariably get 92 points or more from Parker. The Champagne Jacquesson has received 3 stars in the La Revue du Vin de France ranking. This ranking gives a quality assessment of the 1,300 best wineries in France. The judgment is expressed in stars. A three-star rating is the maximum that can be obtained.
This small (annual production 350,000fl.) Champagne house has been at the absolute top in Champagne for several years. This Champagne house has been classified in the top 3 of the Champagnes by "Le Classement 2006". Jacquesson & Fils is one of a small number of small TOP producers who prioritize quality over quantity. The entire range of this house shines of pure class.
