Description
The Antinori brothers were pioneers in the early 1900s in producing sparkling wine with 2nd maturation in the bottle. Giacomo Puccini was a fan and the wine was served at royal banquets at the time. It disappeared from the radar for a while, but with the arrival of Franciacorta as an official appellation, the Montenisa Marchese Antinori sparkling wines have become an indispensable part of the family's beautiful portfolio. Franciacorta is the region in Italy where the similarity in terms of terroir is very similar to that of Champagne and the grapes that are used are also the same as those of Champagne.
All Marchese Antinori Franciacortas - such as the Cuvée Royale, Rosé and Blanc de blancs - are produced from a selection of Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco grapes and are made on the Montenisa estate around the hamlet of Calino, near Lake Iseo in the heart of the Franciacorta appellation. The vineyards surrounding the Maggi family villa have been the heart of Marchese Antinori Franciacorta production since 1999. Franciacortas, such as those of Antinori, are made according to the Champagne way, namely the traditional method.
After manual harvesting of the Chardonnay grapes, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks. As with champagne, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle and the wine remains on its lees for 24 months before disgorgement.
In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs from Antinori has a light yellow color with a creamy bubble and an elegant and persistent sparkle. The nose is fragrant and expressive with fruity and floral notes reminiscent of apples, bread crust and white peaches. The flavors are lively and fresh with a
fine balance and has perceptible elegance and finesse. The ideal serving temperature for the wine is between 7° -9° Celsius. A perfect companion for hors d'oeuvres with fish and Asian food and of course the perfect aperitif. The lively freshness and refined bubbles also makes it a perfect wine as an after-dinner drink. This is a magnum of 1.5 liters. Even more delicious and with a longer drinking window.
