Persoonlijke gegevens
This wine is an excellent example of Nebiollo made from younger vines, aged 10-25 years, and exhibits purity of fruit characteristics. The vineyards are spread throughout the region and therefore experience varying climatic conditions, resulting in the grapes being harvested at different times. This diverse range of locations and harvest times gives the wine an unmistakable complexity. Fermentation for each plot is carried out separately, and the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve varietal purity. The percentage of the plot aged in neutral oak varies from vintage to vintage—for the most part, it is usually a small amount.
The nose of the Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo is vibrant and bursting with aromas of rosebuds, violets, dark fruit, and mint. On the palate, these notes translate and are accompanied by earthy, mineral notes. A wine that can be enjoyed now and has the potential to age well.

VAJR
Aldo Vajra has always been a bit of a rebel. And for good reason, because this trait has led to this beautiful winery and its authentic wines. Vajra's vineyards are located northwest of Barolo and have been organically farmed from the start. The high altitude of the vineyards (the Bricco delle Viole is among the highest vineyards in Piedmont) creates a large temperature difference between day and night. The grapes ripen slowly and fully, giving the wines a wonderful finesse and elegance. The relatively cool climate in this area has led many winemakers to harvest the Dolcetto grape, as this grape needs warmth to fully develop. But the Vajra family still produces beautiful rosé and red wines from this grape. Read more under the tab: Winery

From a challenging vintage, the G.D. Vajra 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo opens to a core of ruby fruit with aromas of wild rose, violet and blood orange. Nebbiolo is especially sensitive to site and growing conditions, and the cooler, rain-affected 2024 season in the Langhe resulted in wines with more delicate structure and brighter aromatics. This vintage rolls into a fine and delicate character that is well suited to the grape, despite heavy rain pressure and mildew concerns. Those conditions yielded a lightly textured and lean wine, but those are big pluses at this affordable price point.

From: 2022 Barolo: Half-Full or Half-Empty? (Jan 2026)
The 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo is a very pretty wine in this challenging vintage. Aromatic, light on its feet and super expressive, the 2024 is such a delight. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and a kick of orange peel all grace this ethereal, lifted Langhe Nebbiolo from the Vajra family.
- By Antonio Galloni, January 2026
This is a fine set of wines from the Vaira family. The 2022 Barolos are a touch light, but they are also classy and impeccably balanced. It was not an easy vintage. Hail in June wiped out 20-40% of potential yields. The 2022 Albe and Coste di Rose saw about 36 days in the skins, whereas the other Barolos spent 50-55 days on skins. Time in cask was 22 months, as opposed to the more customary 24-28. I would be remiss in not mentioning the strength of the entry-level offerings here. The wines are perhaps a touch less impressive than most years, but the 2023 and 2024 vintages were both quite challenging. Year in, year out, Vajra is one of the most consistent producers in Piedmont.

G.D. Vajra is a testament to the harmonious relationship between terroir and the rich legacy of a passionate winemaking family. Situated in the renowned Barolo appellation, this enchanting estate has been crafting exceptional wines for generations, capturing the essence of the land and the profound stories that shaped their journey.
The cornerstone of G.D. Vajra's wine making philosophy lies in the concept of terroir. Every bottle that bears their name is an expression of the unique characteristics of the vineyards and the distinct microclimates that bless the Langhe region. From the ethereal vineyard of Bricco delle Viole to the enchanting slopes of Fossati and Ravera, each parcel of land is meticulously tended, allowing the grapes to mature and develop their individual personalities.
The Vajra family, led by the visionary Aldo Vajra, has been nurturing vineyards and crafting wines since the 1970s. Aldo made his first organic wines at the age of 18 and became one of the first wineries to replant the forgotten grape variety Freisa. He continued to innovate with the plantings of less traditional varieties such as Riesling and Pinot Noir. The Vajra family to this day remain steadfast in their commitment to sustainable practices, seeking to preserve the natural biodiversity of their vineyards for generations to come.
The Vajra family's winemaking journey is a testament to their unwavering love for their heritage. With a blend of tradition and innovation, they have honed their craft over the years, producing wines that carry the spirit of their ancestors. Whether it's the iconic Barolo, the elegant Dolcetto, or the vibrant Barbera, each bottle is a reflection of the Vajra family's deep-rooted passion and dedication.
