PREMIERE - DELIVERY SPRING 2028 - 1.5 liter Magnum in OWC/1

Château Troplong Mondot 2025 undoubtedly ranks among the absolute stars of Bordeaux 2025. Virtually all leading critics place this Saint-Émilion in the highest echelons of the vintage. The wine combines the power and concentration for which Troplong Mondot is known with striking refinement, freshness, and precision. The result is a wine that, according to several reviewers, could develop into one of the greatest Troplong Mondots ever made.

One of the icons of Saint-Émilion

Troplong Mondot is situated on one of the highest points of Saint-Émilion and boasts one of the most exceptional terroirs on the Right Bank. Here, the combination of limestone and clay forms the basis for wines with power, tension, and a distinct identity. Its location on the plateau ensures optimal exposure to sunlight, while the calcareous subsoil gives the wine its characteristic freshness and minerality.

In recent years, Troplong Mondot has developed into one of the most respected estates in Bordeaux. The focus is on terroir expression, precision, and sustainability. The château holds various sustainability labels and is among the frontrunners within Saint-Émilion. You can find more information about this exceptional winery under the Winery tab.

Vintage 2025: made for the terroir of Troplong Mondot

The 2025 growing season was characterized by heat and drought. While such conditions could cause stress elsewhere, the limestone and clay terroir of Troplong Mondot proved exceptionally resilient to these circumstances. The combination of limestone and clay ensured a stable water supply throughout the season, allowing the grapes to ripen homogeneously.

According to the château, 2025 was an ideal vintage to let the pure identity of Troplong Mondot speak for itself. The wine displays an exceptional combination of intensity, aromatic precision, refinement, and freshness. The château describes the wine as a pure expression of its terroir, with silky tannins and an endless finish.

The harvest began on August 28, the earliest start ever on the estate, and continued until September 25. That long harvest window illustrates the great diversity of elevations, exposure, and soil types within the estate. It was precisely these differences that made it possible to harvest each plot at the optimal moment.

Assembly and upbringing

The blend consists of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Merlot forms the heart of the wine, providing richness, texture, and aromatic depth. Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, tension, and length, while Cabernet Franc ensures extra refinement and aromatic complexity.

The wine ages in a combination of 50% new oak barrels, 40% large 20-hectoliter vats, and 10% once-used barrels. This approach ensures that the wood plays a supporting role without overpowering the terroir. The alcohol content is 13.5%, which contributes to the remarkable balance of the wine.

Color, smell and taste

Château Troplong Mondot 2025 has a deep ruby red color with purple reflections. The nose opens with aromas of blackberries, black plums, cassis, and dark cherries. Additionally, floral notes of violets, lilac, and iris appear, complemented by nuances of dark chocolate, licorice, graphite, and subtle spices.

On the palate, the wine presents itself as full and concentrated, yet at the same time remarkably refined. A core of ripe dark fruit is surrounded by fresh acidity and silky tannins. As the wine opens up, notes of menthol, cocoa, dried herbs, and chalky minerality emerge.

What makes this vintage special is the combination of power and finesse. Antonio Galloni calls it one of the most refined Troplong Mondots he has ever tasted. The wine possesses enormous concentration and depth, yet remains energetic, precise, and harmonious at the same time. The long finish is supported by dark fruit, graphite, spices, and an impressive freshness.

One of the wines of the vintage

Virtually all international reviewers place Château Troplong Mondot 2025 in the absolute top of Bordeaux 2025. William Kelley explicitly calls the wine one of the wines of the vintage and states that it can rival the legendary 2022, although both vintages have a totally different character.

Antonio Galloni speaks of a completely stunning Saint-Émilion with an unprecedented purity of fruit and a combination of power and elegance rarely seen. Other reviewers particularly praise the energy, precision, refined tannins, and the chalky freshness so characteristic of the Troplong Mondot terroir.

The ratings are among the highest of all Bordeaux 2025, further confirming Troplong Mondot's status as one of the absolute references of Saint-Émilion.

The slogan at Château Troplong Mondot is: TROPLONG MONDOT CANNOT BE EXPLAINED: IT NEEDS TO BE LIVED. Château Troplong Mondot was the first Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion. It is a special place and  manages its territory like  a garden cultivated vineyard  Located at the highest point of the appellation, this 43-hectare estate is fully exposed. The terroir of Ch. Troplong Mondot is located atop the highest point of the Côte Pavie, in Saint Laurent de Combes, where the greatest wines of Saint Emilion are made.

The history of this 1er Grand Cru Classé goes back to 1745 when it was still called Domaine de Mondot and was part of Château Pavie, now 1er Grand Cru Classé A. With the arrival of Raymond Troplong in 1850, the two names were merged and Château Troplong Mondot was a fact. Wine merchant Alexandre Valette bought the castle in the early 1900s. Christine Valette-Pariente and her husband Xavier Pariente sold the castle to the insurance company SCOR in 2017, after which it has undergone a true renaissance under the leadership of Aymeric de Gironde. The oenologist guru Michel Rolland has also been employed here since 1980. The Les Belles Perdrix restaurant will open there in June 2021 and will be awarded a Michelin star in 2022.
