Château Suduiraut belongs to the absolute elite of Sauternes and was classified as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855. The château is located in Preignac, directly next to Château d'Yquem, and boasts an exceptional terroir of sand, gravel, and clay. Although Suduiraut is known worldwide for its great sweet wines, in recent years the estate has been investing heavily in top-level dry white Bordeaux. Under the guidance of AXA Millésimes, there is a strong focus on terroir expression, precision, and elegance. The Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec represents the absolute pinnacle of Suduiraut's dry white range and comes from old vines that provide extra concentration and depth. Origin, terroir and vintage 2025

The vineyards of Château Suduiraut are located in Preignac, in the heart of Sauternes. Although primarily famous for botrytized sweet wine, the soils also prove exceptionally suitable for dry white Bordeaux. Gravelly plots provide tension and finesse, while clay and limestone contribute texture and aromatic depth. 2025 saw early vine development and remarkably small grapes. A dry and warm June resulted in low yields and concentrated fruit. Late July and early August brought some relief from the rain, which helped preserve freshness and acidity. The warmth in August further accelerated ripening, allowing the harvest of the dry white wines to begin exceptionally early, between August 18 and 27. Yields remained very low, but the quality is described by Suduiraut as exceptional.

Grape varieties and vinification

The blend of Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec 2025 consists of 66% Sémillon and 34% Sauvignon Blanc . The relatively high amount of Sémillon gives the wine breadth, texture, and depth, while Sauvignon Blanc provides tension, freshness, and aromatic precision.

The wine comes from old vines, which is immediately apparent in its concentration and complexity. Aging lasts nine months and takes place in 14% new oak barrels and 86% one-year-old used barrels . This subtle influence of wood supports the wine without overpowering the terroir or freshness. With an alcohol content of 13.7%, a pH of 3.39, and high total acidity, this wine combines ripeness with striking energy.

Style, scent and taste

Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Blanc Sec 2025 combines richness with exceptional precision. On the nose, layers of citrus zest, lime, white flowers, and fresh mint slowly unfold, complemented by notes of white peach, pear, almond, and a subtle hint of fresh bread dough. Behind this emerges a refined minerality reminiscent of wet stones and limestone.

On the palate, the tension is immediately noticeable. Despite the richness of Sémillon, the wine remains remarkably energetic and linear. Antonio Galloni speaks of an impressive combination of Sémillon richness and vibrant energy, where the tension of the wine is particularly striking. Yves Beck, on the other hand, notes the subtle salinity and fine bitterness that enhance the freshness in the long finish.

The texture is lightly creamy without becoming heavy. Citrus, white peach, pear, and light spiciness build towards a long, precise finish with notes of lemon peel, beeswax, and a subtle saline touch. Xavier Lacombe emphasizes the combination of freshness and a fine zest, while Decanter describes the wine as mineral, floral, and remarkably nuanced.
