Winery

Château Rauzan-Ségla has belonged to the elite of Margaux for centuries and is regarded as one of the most respected Deuxième Grand Cru Classé estates in Bordeaux. Since the investments by Chanel, the château has undergone an impressive development in quality. The vineyards are situated on some of the best gravel soils in the appellation and produce wines known for their combination of power, elegance, and refined aromatic complexity. Rauzan-Ségla is often seen as one of the most characterful houses of Margaux, where terroir and precision take center stage. You can find more information about this winery in the Winery tab.

Origin and terroir

The vineyards of Rauzan-Ségla are spread across a mosaic of gravelly, clayey, and limestone soils within Margaux. This variation ensures complexity and balance in the final blend. The deep gravel layers provide excellent drainage and encourage the roots to penetrate deep into the soil. This contributes to the concentration and finesse for which the château is known. Furthermore, the location close to the Gironde ensures a temperate climate that allows for a long and consistent growing season.

Grapes and vineyard management

The 2025 blend consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1.5% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Cabernet Franc. The yield was only 29 hectoliters per hectare, resulting in a high concentration of aromas and structure. The grapes were harvested between September 2 and 15. Work in the vineyards is carried out with great precision to harvest each grape variety at optimal ripeness. The low yields and strict selection contribute to the high quality of this vintage.

Vinification and aging

After manual harvesting, the grapes are carefully sorted and vinified separately. This allows each plot to be assessed individually before the final blend is created. The wine then ages in French oak barrels, approximately 60% of which are new. The use of wood is carefully integrated and supports the structure without dominating the fruit. During aging, sur lie maturation contributes extra texture, refinement, and complexity.

Color, smell and taste

The wine has a deep ruby red color. On the nose, aromas of cassis, blackberry, dark cherries, and violets emerge, complemented by notes of graphite, cedarwood, mocha, licorice, and subtle spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with an impressive combination of concentration and freshness. The tannins are refined, polished, and simultaneously rich in structure. A bright core of black fruit is supported by lively acidity and a long, precise finish in which minerality and floral nuances return.

Style and character

The 2025 Rauzan-Ségla displays everything that makes great Margaux so appealing: refinement, aromatic complexity, and an almost effortless elegance. Despite the concentration of the vintage, the wine remains energetic and precise. The combination of ripe fruit, floral notes, and silky tannins gives the wine a classic appearance with modern precision. This is a wine that will appeal to lovers of both finesse and structure.

Volume

The 2025 vintage is regarded as one of the most successful of recent years in Margaux. Thanks to meticulous vineyard management and a carefully chosen harvest time, producers such as Rauzan-Ségla were able to harvest grapes with both concentration and freshness. The wine combines ripe tannins, aromatic depth, and striking energy. Its aging potential is considerable, and the wine will continue to develop over the coming decades.

Food and wine pairings

This Margaux pairs excellently with refined meat dishes such as rack of lamb, sirloin, venison, or pigeon. Dishes with truffles, mushrooms, and classic French sauces also complement the wine's complexity beautifully. As the wine ages further, it becomes a wonderful accompaniment to game dishes and aged hard cheeses.
