EXCLUSIVE - EXPECTED SPRING 2028
Winery Château Pédesclaux
Château Pédesclaux belongs to the Grand Cru Classés of Pauillac and was classified as a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Since the takeover by the Lorenzetti family in 2009, the château has undergone an impressive development in quality. Major investments in terroir research, precision farming, and a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery have firmly established Pédesclaux as one of the appellation's most ambitious Pauillacs. Since 2019, the estate has been organically certified, with a distinct focus on finesse, terroir expression, and freshness. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
Origin, terroir and vintage 2025
The vineyards of Château Pédesclaux are spread across some of the best terroirs in Pauillac, including gravelly soils that are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. These terroirs combine sun warmth with sufficient drainage, creating concentration without loss of freshness.
The 2025 vintage began with even flowering following a mild, relatively dry winter. A stable growing season followed, with warm but controlled conditions and no signs of coulure. According to the château, the small, well-distributed grapes suggested early on a harvest that would combine both concentration and finesse. Careful canopy management and precise leaf removal helped keep water stress moderate, ideal for high-quality fruit. Rain at the end of August brought additional balance and refined ripeness, while preserving freshness. The harvest took place exceptionally early, between 8 and 20 September 2025 , under excellent conditions.
Vineyards and grape varieties
Château Pédesclaux 2025 consists of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot . Cabernet Sauvignon forms the heart of the wine, providing structure, freshness, and the classic Pauillac signature. Merlot brings roundness and dark fruit, while Cabernet Franc adds extra refinement and aromatic tension. Petit Verdot provides extra depth and spiciness.
According to the château, the vintage shows a perfect illustration of the balance so typical of Pauillac: sun-ripened concentration combined with freshness and precision. Furthermore, the relatively low alcohol content of only 13% , combined with a pH of 3.68 , is striking, underscoring the classic style of 2025.
Harvest, vinification and aging
The harvest was carried out entirely by hand and with extreme precision, plot by plot. Thanks to healthy grapes and excellent ripeness, a highly selective approach was possible to include only the best fruit in the Grand Vin. Vinification focused on gentle extraction, with maceration periods of two to three weeks building color, aromatic complexity, and texture without losing finesse. The wine ages in 50% new French oak barrels . The wood supports the structure and texture, yet remains distinctly supportive of the fruit and terroir expression. According to the château, this approach results in a harmonious, elegant, and velvety style with refined aromatic intensity.
Style, scent and taste
Château Pédesclaux 2025 opens deep and refined with cassis, dark berries, and black cherries, supported by violets, lavender, and subtle floral nuances. Behind these emerge cedarwood, tobacco, liquorice, mocha, and wet stones, complemented by a light spiciness of rosemary and pepper.
James Suckling particularly praises the purity of the fruit, the freshness, and the linear precision. According to him, the dark fruit is evenly distributed across the palate, supported by an elegant, slightly chewy texture and great definition. Neal Martin describes Pédesclaux 2025 as a return to the juicy freshness he has always associated with the château, with rose petals and tart plum as a refined aromatic signature.
On the palate, the wine reveals itself to be refined and energetic. Decanting emphasizes the velvety texture, the chalky tension, and the impressive energy of the wine. The tannins are abundant yet remarkably refined and integrated. Antonio Galloni speaks of a wine in which dark fruit, floral tension, and mineral precision come together harmoniously. According to The Drinks Business, this even ranks among the best Pédesclaux ever made, with crystalline tannins, an almost ethereal finesse, and a precision reminiscent of the style of Duhart-Milon or even Lafite.

Parker
The 2025 Pedésclaux reveals aromas of dark wild berries, cassis, blackberry and floral notes, combining freshness with approachability. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s structured yet enveloping, built around a juicy core of fruit framed by a firm tannic structure and concludes with a long, perfumed and somewhat firm finish. A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, it is being matured in 50% new oak, with a significant proportion in 400-liter barrels rather than standard barriques.

Vinous
The 2025 Pédesclaux is powerful, rich and expansive, yet it retains striking finesse to temper all of the natural intensity of this warm, dry year. Pédesclaux certainly has a lot to offer. Lifted floral notes, silky contours and gorgeous blue/purplish fruit are some of the signatures that grace this expressive, generous Pauillac. Tasted two times.
