EXCLUSIVE - DELIVERY SPRING 2028
Château Palmer has belonged to the absolute elite of Margaux for decades and is regarded as one of the most distinctive terroirs in Bordeaux. Although the château was officially classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Palmer is regarded by many enthusiasts and connoisseurs as a wine that effortlessly reaches the level of the greatest names in Bordeaux. The 2025 vintage confirms once again why Château Palmer has built such a special reputation. A wine with depth, velvet, precision, and striking harmony.
The 2025 vintage of Château Palmer
After a challenging 2024, 2025 began with a mild and dry winter, causing the vegetative cycle to start early. Flowering proceeded quickly and homogeneously under sunny conditions, while an increasing water shortage from June resulted in small, concentrated grapes. August brought an intense heatwave with temperatures above 35 degrees, comparable to warm reference years in Bordeaux.
Nevertheless, the character of the vintage was ultimately determined by rain at the end of August. This rainfall came just in time and brought balance to the ripening. The grapes were able to complete their phenolic ripeness without excessive alcohol levels. According to Château Palmer, this resulted in a style that does not revolve around pure power, but rather around harmony, finesse, and texture. The harvest took place exceptionally early, between September 4 and 26, 2025, with a very low yield of only 20 hectoliters per hectare.
Grapes and vinification of Château Palmer 2025
The Château Palmer 2025 blend consists of 55% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Petit Verdot. The important role of Merlot is striking, as it performed surprisingly strongly in this warm year. While a dominant Cabernet-driven style was expected beforehand, Merlot proved to bring exceptional depth, freshness, and texture.
The old Merlot vines of the Plateau des Brauzes, a clay- and gravel-rich first terrace zone towards the Gironde, play an important role in Palmer's style. It is precisely these plots that contribute to the characteristic velvety texture for which Château Palmer is known. Thanks to low yields and strict selection, the wine displays impressive concentration without feeling heavy.
Flavor profile and food pairing of Château Palmer
The 2025 Château Palmer is expected to display an impressive aromatic profile with black cherries, cassis, ripe plums, and dark forest fruits, complemented by violets, graphite, cedarwood, spices, and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, the wine reveals itself to be deep and layered, with silky tannins, great precision, and an exceptionally refined structure.
While some warm Bordeaux vintages impress with power, Palmer 2025 seems to revolve primarily around balance and elegance. The wine combines intensity with an almost weightless finesse, making it impressive both when young and possessing impressive aging potential.
Château Palmer comes into its own perfectly alongside refined meat dishes such as venison, saddle of lamb, côte de boeuf, or slow-cooked short ribs. Classic dishes with truffle, morels, or rich sauces also complement the layered complexity of this great Margaux beautifully.

Parker
RP (97-99) One of the most refined and seamless wines of the vintage is the 2025 Palmer, a blend of 55% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot that wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries, plums and licorice complemented by floral accents of violet and wisteria (yes, the window of the tasting room was closed). Full-bodied, suave and layered, with a deep and concentrated core of fruit, bright acids and supple tannins, it's already harmonious and complete, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. At only 13.5% alcohol, this is quite a bit lower than most recent sunny vintages at Palmer.

(Score 97-98) Plush is the word to describe this red. Full-bodied and layered, with velvety tannins and a savory finish. Juicy at the end. Flashy and posh. Plenty of blackberry and black currant aromas and flavors.

Vinous
(96-98) The 2025 Palmer is unusual in that Merlot drives the blend this year. That results in an unusually juicy Grand Vin. Even so, there's plenty of supporting structure. The blend is 55% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. Black fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice, gravel and chocolate build into a driving, potent finish. There's a lot of gravitas and substance here. I am very much looking forward to tasting this as a finished wine; my impression today is that the 2025 is holding back quite a bit of its potential.
Drinking Window: 2035 - 2065. - By Antonio Galloni on April 2026
(95-97) The 2025 Palmer was picked between September 4 and 26 at just 20 hl/ha (Duroux mentioned how yields have decreased by around 10 hl/ha over the last decade). Matured in 80% new oak and then racked into foudres the following June, it is quintessentially Palmer on the nose with those almost extravagant floral violet scents that blossom in the glass. Wonderful delineation and focus, touches of Indian ink and cassis emerge with time. The palate is very smooth and velvety on the entry, disguising the substance and weight of this wine. Impressive in terms of density, with a little more grip than the Alter Ego, it delivers just the right amount of spice that gives the finish another dimension. One of the longer-term Margaux wines that would benefit from a cellar in its first few years.
Drinking Window: 2035 - 2070. - By Neal Martin on May 2026
Palmer was already one of the Médoc’s most picturesque châteaux before its wholesale renovation. That long-term project is now virtually complete, including a bistro. As for 2025, CEO Thomas Duroux explained: “The key points are the same as elsewhere: low fertility, heat wave in June that had an impact on the size of berries, a warm and dry summer until the end of August, and rain changing the game completely. There was aromatic, technological and phenolic ripeness. Usually, you have to push technological ripeness to achieve phenolic ripeness, but in 2025, they arrived together. We started picking on September 4, and in six days, all the Merlot was picked. The Cabernet was harvested from September 11 to 26, a little longer than usual. The Merlot surprised us, so there is more in the Grand Vin, around 55%. The blending process went pretty fast: we tasted the vats every day and made decisions based on our observations. The alcohol is 13% for the Alter Ego and 13.5% for the Palmer.”

Château Palmer is located in the heart of the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. The 66 hectares of vineyards have a gravel soil and the vines overlook the Gironde River. The area with its rich ancient history and nourishing microclimate is a fantastic environment for the vines. Here they can flourish and grow under the passionate care of the people of Château Palmer. Behind every great wine is a great terroir. This is also the case at Château Palmer, which is located on a long strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde. The land is well drained, rich in the deposits of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. It is difficult soil for agriculture, but exceptional for grapes. Of course, the vines also need good care in order to perform optimally. And that is certainly entrusted to the employees of Château Palmer! Full of passion and love for the vines, they cultivate the demanding terroir. The people of this winery are more than just colleagues. Together they embrace the common core values of Château Palmer and are therefore extremely dynamic, curious, passionate, open-minded and determined. In short, they live for and with the vineyards.
