A FIRST - EXPECTED SPRING 2028

The 2025 Château La Fleur-Pétrus undoubtedly ranks among the absolute highlights of Pomerol. In a vintage that was not equally easy everywhere, La Fleur-Pétrus succeeds in combining power, finesse, and precision in an exceptional manner. The wine possesses the depth and concentration characteristic of great Pomerol, yet simultaneously distinguishes itself through its elegance, refined structure, and remarkable energy.

Winery Château La Fleur-Pétrus

Château La Fleur-Pétrus belongs to the prestigious Moueix family, responsible for some of Pomerol's most iconic wines, including Pétrus, Trotanoy, and Hosanna. The estate is situated in an exceptional location between Pétrus and Lafleur and benefits from a terroir known for its combination of gravel, clay, and ferrous soils. The style of La Fleur-Pétrus is characterized by elegance, precision, and a refined expression of Merlot. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.

The wine and blend

The 2025 consists of 97% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. The dominant role of Merlot provides the velvety texture and layered fruit expression, while the small addition of Petit Verdot gives extra structure, freshness, and aromatic depth.

Vineyard, terroir and vintage

La Fleur-Pétrus benefits from one of the most sought-after terroirs in Pomerol. The combination of deep clay layers and gravelly plots creates an ideal balance between concentration, ripeness, and freshness. In the warm and dry 2025 vintage, the old vines managed to draw upon sufficient water reserves, allowing the grapes to retain their aromatic freshness and refinement.

It is precisely in this vintage that La Fleur-Pétrus distinguishes itself through its elegance. Where some wines from Pomerol primarily display power, this wine combines impressive concentration with refined tension, floral nuances, and remarkable precision.

Vinification and aging

The vinification is entirely focused on preserving purity and terroir expression. Through careful extraction, the tannins remain refined and polished, while the natural concentration of the vintage is fully preserved. Aging supports the structure without overpowering the finesse of the fruit.

Color, smell and taste

Deep ruby red in color. The nose opens with aromas of black blackberries, dark cherries, and ripe plums, followed by rose petals, blood orange, mint, exotic spices, and a subtle touch of black truffle. The aromatic precision and purity are impressive.

On the palate, the wine displays an exceptional balance between power and refinement. The texture is silky and layered, with a core of dark fruit supported by perfectly integrated tannins. The wine possesses remarkable linearity and energy, where the tannins are barely noticeable due to the purity of the fruit. Floral accents, minerality, and a subtle spiciness provide additional complexity. The finish is long, intense, and impressively precise.

Summary of professional reviews

The 2025 Château La Fleur-Pétrus is among the highest-rated wines of the vintage. James Suckling awards 99-100 points and describes it as a wine of exceptional purity, energy, and intensity, where the tannins blend completely with the fruit. William Kelley (The Wine Advocate, 94-96 points) calls La Fleur-Pétrus, along with Trotanoy, one of the most impressive and powerful wines within the Moueix portfolio. Antonio Galloni (94-96 points) emphasizes the finesse and elegance the wine displays in a warm vintage, with notes of rose petals, blood orange, and exotic spices. The combination of power, precision, and refinement makes this one of the most complete Pomerols of 2025.

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the most renowned vineyards of Pomerol. This historic estate, located exclusively on the plateau, was named in the 18th century because of its location opposite the towns of 'Petrus' and 'La Fleur'. Based in Libourne since 1937, Jean-Pierre Moueix noticed early on the excellent quality of the Pomerol appellation. Château La Fleur-Pétrus was his very first acquisition in 1950. Shortly afterwards, he bought Château Trotanoy in 1953.

The personality of Château La Fleur-Pétrus lies in the careful association of the famous gravel and clay terroirs of the Pomerol plateau. Located 33 to 38 meters above sea level, the vineyard derives its identity from the nuances of the soil and the height of each plot. The plots dominated by gravel tend to yield wines of great elegance, while those dominated by clay are distinctly velvety, dense and structured.

Château La Fleur-Pétrus consists mainly of Merlot, which gives the wine softness and generosity. Cabernet Franc, planted on gravel and fine clay, provides rigor and complexity, while a small percentage of Petit Verdot, planted on fine gravel, gives a touch of spice to the finish.

The wine combines a unique elegance with the generosity and structure typical of the great vineyards of Pomerol. An attentive tasting reveals remarkable refinement, complexity and a hint of violet.

The owner of this domain is the Moueix family. Jean-Pierre Moueix was born in Correze in 1913 and moved with his parents to Saint-Émilion after the Great Depression of 1929. At the time, the wines of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion were not yet widely recognised. A visionary, Jean-Pierre Moueix envisioned great potential both in the Merlot grape and in its ability to mature when grown in the best terroirs of its adopted region. In 1950, he began to expand his trading activities with the purchase of several well-known vineyards, starting with Château La Fleur-Pétrus in Pomerol, followed by Château Magdelaine, Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, in 1952, and Château Trotanoy, Pomerol, in 1953. Over the next four decades, he continued to successfully develop the wine merchant and the production elements of the company simultaneously.

The pinnacle of his career was the acquisition of Château Petrus. He entrusted the care to his son Christian. Jean-François Moueix, his eldest son, inherited the property and took over the management in 2009 so here is also the reference to Petrus so in fact one son got Chateau Petrus and Jean-pierre's other son the other domains such as La Fleur and Trotanoy .
